It's concerning that it seemed like Ross didn't want to do what was so blatantly obvious. Thank God it happened, Dolphins have about 40 mil in cap space to work with.

They mutually agreed for him to gtfo.

Statements from both Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland: “I want to personally thank Jeff for his hard work and dedication in building the team over the past six years,” said Ross. “After a series of discussions, we both felt that it was in our mutual best interest to part ways. Jeff was a loyal and dedicated member of the Dolphins and we wish him and his family nothing but the best.”
“I’ve spent the last six years with the best organization in football,” added Ireland. “Steve and I came to an agreement that the best thing moving forward for all parties would be to part ways. I’d like to thank Steve for all his support and kindness. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people during this time and I’d like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart. “

Wonder if Philbin goes too? He fires his OC, Sherman, and now the GM is gone. I cann't see a new GM wanting to retain him (unless its like the Jets where Rex had to be kept on board).

I didn't think any of them would survive that Incognito debacle. But Ireland seems like a complete idiot judging from some of the reports, forget the horrible draft picks and spending all that money this offseason not to make the playoffs.

I thought it was time for Ireland to go too. Personnel wasn't very good even under the previous coach, Sparano.

Pretty good summary of Ireland's tenure.

The Good
Ireland played a part in Miami landing former CFL standout Cameron Wake, getting him to the Dolphins when a half dozen NFL teams were trying to lure the three-time Pro Bowler. Bill Parcells was the executive who convinced Wake to pick Miami over other suitors, but Ireland scouted him. Ireland also got Wake signed to a five-year, $33.2 million extension that will likely keep him in a Dolphins uniform until 2017.
The Bad
The Dolphins created a treasure chest of draft picked for 2013, but only one of the nine newcomers were major contributors in their rookie season. Dion Jordan, the team’s first-round pick, served as third down specialist. Cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Will Davis barely played on special teams, much less defense. The offensive line was a disaster, but Dallas Thomas couldn’t sniff the field. Jelani Jenkins got off to a slow start. The only significant contributor was kicker Caleb Sturgis, who also had a rough patches.
The Ugly
The Dolphins have produced one winning record, one AFC East division crown, and one playoff appearance during Ireland’s six-year reign. And that was in the organization’s first season, a year that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was sidelined by an ACL tear. Since then the Ireland led Dolphins have finished 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 and 8-8. The franchise’s record with Ireland as GM is 46-50.

Im pretty sure there was an incident this season that made the Dolphins look pretty bad. Can't remember what it was but I imagine htta stained his time there too.
