Louisville is an average football school at best.

Interesting too that he coached both fball and baseball at the same time

Yeah it was a different time in the 20s. Only 30 years prior, Alabama hadn't even heard of football.

No, he was living in the past 50 years ago. West Point's glory days were long gone, but he still clung to the notion that he would be the second coming of his mentor, Earl Blaik, and bring them back to the big time again.

Syracuse in basketball for Tulane, or LSU in football to Army, looking retrospectively.

He also left his Kentucky team that was doing well for Texas A&M.

Houston Nutt from Arkansas to Ole Miss. I know he resigned, but he would not have done so without the Ole Miss job in his pocket.

You know he was fired, right? That's not the same thing as someone like Sark leaving willingly for USC.

how about Tom O'brien going from BC to NCST.

That is the definition of a lateral move.

"Technically". Wink, wink.

That terrible move by our chancellor got him fired as well.

You make a great point. Great head coaches at great programs who have stable job security rarely leave for a better college job unless there are serious issues going on that has the coach unhappy.

I actually got bored at work one day last year during our coaching search and looked this up. I can't remember the exact numbers but over the prior ten years it was something like only 4% of hires involved a Big 5 conference BCS school hiring another Big 5 conference head coach. It almost never happens.

he left for Army. in those days, Army was a huge influence on LSU athletics. college athletics was actually for amateurs and Army was a very prestigious job.
