Andrew Perloff @andrewperloff
Dan Patrick says he's been told that the NFL will add a wild card team in both conferences.

SportsInsights.com @SportsInsights
On his national radio show, Dan Patrick has said the NFL will add an additional wildcard in each league for the 2014-15 season.

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora
To this point it hasn't been presented to (the owners). Of course, it could be at May meeting. DP may have inside info that enough votes are there

I guess that would mean the #1 seed in each conference would be the only team to get a bye?

Let's just become the NBA where over half the teams get into the playoffs.

It doesn't need to be changed.

But you'll still watch it. You'll love having games from noon until midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Ratings will be through the roof. More cities that get the home game will get an economic boost. The NFL becomes a bigger product.

I don't get why fans would complain about this. 1 extra spot means my team has a slightly better chance of making the playoffs. Y'all are some negative mofos.

I actually don't mind this...I wouldn't be in favor of two per conference.

I wouldn't mind this either, if it were the case.

Correct. Two doubleheaders turns into two tripleheaders. This will turn wild card weekend into January Madness.

Why not just allow everyone into the playoffs and have a 32 team mega tournament every season instead

That is why I like MLB playoffs better than NBA. I'd like to see less shitty teams in the playoffs if possible, it makes the regular more important and winning your division is more of an accomplishment

NBA is kinda screwed. The only way to make their playoff system really good is to expand to nearly 40 teams, thus justifying 16 in the playoffs. I'm sure the NBA has nothing against a bye for top teams, but sitting out for an entire series, rather than just one game in the NFL, makes it awkward and difficult. Better to watch the Heat play the Bucks four times instead of sit for two weeks.

How is a 7-team playoff going to work?

Only the top seed get a bye?

I'm for this. Top seed gets a bye then have everyone else play. I wish they would do something about divisional winners automatically getting a home game though.

top team in each league gets a bye and the rest of the seeding is done by record and not winning a division
