Jerrah should be very happy with this. Rewarding of mediocrity has become the norm with the 'boys. They're still the NFL's biggest TV draw.

i don't see what's wrong with adding one extra team.

only the 2 seed doesn't get the bye now, but they still play at home. the team that's added will, in more years than not, have an identical record to the team that's the 6 seed. not a big deal.

Well for a guy thats team has been a wildcard team in this century, i dont think thatll happen for a while

Seriously the last thing the playoffs needs is more 8-8 squads and punishing the teams the did go 12-4 or 13-3 by taking away their bye week

I thought going to 8 divisions was the perfect opportunity to eliminate the wild-cards. Naturally, the NFL added wild-cards.

The wild cards as of late haven't been the shitty teams. It's been the division winners in the 3/4 slot that have been horrible.

Look at this season in the NFC. Both wild card teams had better records than the #3 and #4 seeds that won their divisions.

Hell, Arizona finished 10-6 in the hardest division in football and didn't get in over the Eagles and Packers (8-7-1).

The reality is that letting in one more wild card team per conference does two things:

1) Makes the 1 seed mean more.

2) Makes sure crap divisions don't steal deserved spots from teams that are better and happen to just be in the stronger division.

I'm in the fence about this. On one hand, as a huge fan I am happy about the idea of getting more playoff games and my chance having a better chance to make the big game... but it's scary thinking about the NFL creeping towards half of the league making the playoffs.

Because this weekends games were already boring as shite. No one cares about the chargers bengals etc. They aren't going to win, so why waste our time

Boo freaking hoo! I cant believe people are making this argument. If you are 12-4 or 13-3, you should win playoff games over 8-8 teams with or without a bye. This is the NFL. Adding one team isnt going to hurt a dam thing!

This is honestly the truth. By having 4 divisions, you gave 2 shots for terrible divisions to get teams in and knock out deserving wild card teams. Before this, there were three wild cards and the best wild card team hosted.

If they had stayed at 30 teams (15 in each conference), this wouldn't be a problem, but ownership moving teams (Houston to Tennessee and Cleveland to Baltimore) caused this mess.
