I really don't understand why winning your division is some useful metric when all divisions are not created equal.

Im going to disagree with the down votes. I for one love the idea and IMO is no way is it getting like the Nba. Still plenty of teams left out of the playoffs but I think on many occassions some really good teams get left out of the NFL playoffs. Certainly only my 2 cents but I love football and 2 extra games to be played is okay by me. Certainly hope they have the votes.

I like it. It does not an extra round of games. And in most seasons there are teams with winning records who don't make the playoffs.

Having a winning season shouldn't guarantee a playoff spot.

That's true, but it also says that Philly is "more accomplished" than San Francisco and rewards the former with a home game.

What a lot of us are ignoring is that because the 16-0 team did better than the 14-2 team all year, the current system favors them more than anyone. The 14-2 team is a wild card because the 16-0 team made them a wild card. I have no problem making that 14-2 team go on the road to earn their way to the Super Bowl.

Any division that exists will place its champion in the playoffs--that's inevitable. Wild cards exists on the whim of the league. The only "deserving" teams are the eight division winners. If you don't win your division, you run the risk of being left out regardless of how many wins you have.
There is no such thing as a "deserving" wild card team. Division winners earn their way into the playoffs; wild card teams are allowed in.
the NFL should eliminate divisions

The only.good thing is NFL doesn't play a series. So you don't actually have to extend the season. Just have 3 games going instead of 2. NBA is horribly long. But this will give the 8-8 and 7-9 teams more if a chance to get in.

divisions make no logical sense except maybe rivalries and shouldn't have this great significance
it makes the playoffs irrational, illogical messes...when the saints had to go to seattle we all should have learned this

frickING LAME!!!
I'd rather see 3 divisions and ONE wildcard per conference.

I don't get why fans would complain about this. 1 extra spot means my team has a slightly better chance of making the playoffs. Y'all are some negative mofos.
Why not just play off the entire damn league? Its 32 teams - that works out PERFECT - doesn't it? We'll let the regular season count only for seeding. Then EVERYONE can make the fricking playoffs - so EXCITING!!!

This shitty argument was made and appropriately judged on page 1.

Bigger playoffs - SUCK. They're great for people who don't care so much for the rest of the year I guess.
Playoffs should only be designed to be big enough to make sure they include #1. In the NFL, 6 teams per conference is plenty. They should really just get RID of a wild-card team and only have 1.

Theoretically reasonable, but practically impossible, all things considered.
