We normally don't worry much in South LA but the next few nights pose problems- make sure your boat is ready and don't forget the batteries!

Lower the motor all the way down. Start motor for 30 seconds or so to push out any water that is in the block/lower unit.

Once that is done, leave it down.

A hard freeze with water in it will crack the block/lower unit.

Empty livewells, run the pumps to clear all water, same for washdown pump.

This. You want to get all water out. It will not hurt anything for a short period run.

Also,If you have a water pressure gauge be sure to un hook the line on both ends and blow out water in the line, the gauge will be ruined if it freezes.

What fishfighter said – that’s all I do for my duck hunting boat and we hunt thru christmas and 0 degree weather. As far as battery don’t worry about it batteries don’t freeze – we regularly get -20 deg and I don’t do anything for my vehicle batteries. Just get water out of block/lower unit and you will be good

I've never done this and never had an issue. I thought because of the way they worked, you wouldnt have water in it if not running and pressurized.

One other thing. If you keep cold drinks on board, you might want to remove them. As cold as it's going to get, there will be a chance for them to bust open, making a mess.

Also, if you can, lift the trailer tonged as high as you can to drain out any water that is in the boat. That water will freeze and can crack a hull.

battery will not freeze if charged A discharged battery should be put on a charger for the night

If your boat is not under shelter I often wrap the lower unit and insulate it. just extra protection

If you have an inboard or stern drive you should have all the drain plugs in the block removed and any plugs you may have in risers or pumps
