Looking solid the last few games and should only get better with more experience.

Can't argue with that.

He has looked better every game for sure. But the only thing it changes IMO is that we don't need to use a top 1 or 2 pick on a LT. I'd be shocked if the saints don't draft at least one solid OT in April.

Not necessarily. The Saints still need a RT. Strief and Brown are both free agents after this season.

Agreed. I'd say it hasn't changed draft needs at all. It only gives more options for the first 2 picks. Previously, I think we had to go T in the first round. Now we can go best available CB, T, C in the first. I would think CB. If there's an elite C in the second take him. And go T in the third.

Exactly.

I was all in for the best OT we could draft this year, but I'll admit that we may have something with Armstead after these last 3 weeks.

It still doesn't change the fact that OT isn't a position of need.

We can likely get Strief back cheap. RTs don't command much money and he'll be 31 at the start of the season.

That said we still need to draft or sign a young tackle as a replacement IF we don't like Harris, Jones, or that other guy. Personally if Jones has been developing well he is a fricking wall of a man and I'd love to have him starting.

Strief will be here holding down RT for us next year. I still say we draft an OT just not in the first two rounds now due to Armstead's progress. First 2 rounds I say lock lock up the WR
position and get greers replacement. Then OT and C and S and LB. Armstead stepping up has swayed me from OT in the first. I also believe in BPA when picking outside of the top 20, rather than targeting a certain position.

the ideal pick for me would be a guy that could come in at center for a few years then move over to guard when pulling the plug on Grubbs or Evans.

Grubbs and Evans are only gonna get harder to keep as they age and their contracts keep going up.
Evans $11mil per year in 2014 &15. And not cuttable. And turning 31 & 32.
Grubbs $9.1mil & 9.6mil in 2014 & 15. And not cuttable. Age 31 & 32
Their both under contract 2016 but cuttable. A $4mil cap hit would save over $15mil.

They have rolled so much forward I dunno if ya could realistically restructure them at that age.

but you don't draft a center in the first round.

Like everybody laughed at the Cowboys this year for doing it

I'd like a new center. Which is good because they seem to be available in the later rounds.

Center
Tackle
Corner back/ safety/ ballhawk

If those aren't addressed on the free agency/ trade/ draft / off season I will call Micky myself and tell him he's a dipshit

There's some that do merit that rating but not this year. Tyler Larsen & Travis Swanson look like the top Centers. Certainly can get an upgrade over dlP with a 2nd or 3rd rder.

For the 1st Rd I think the later the pick is the stronger it is BPA. I'd guess CB as the best positional fit but overwhelming value trumps by #32 selection.

Yeah this is what I was thinking, it's like when we drafted PRob after the 2009 season

Not sure how you're figuring they're uncuttable in 2014 and 2015.

Evans actually saves $2.5 mil next season if cut which is a good chunk of change(but not worth it). Grubbs wouldn't make any sense as he'd save only $100,000 and would save a lot more if restructured(not that we would need to but he is a player to keep in mind if we still need money).

Definitely not saying we should cut either next season especially without a replacement in place like you are suggesting doing. But they do both add to the green so that means the are cuttable even if not logical.

Now come 2015 Evans save $6 mil on the cap and has to be considered a cut candidate if he doesn't restructure(which I think he will). Grubbs would save $3.6 mil and would have to also be considered depending on our cap situation.

I think unless we have a replacement ready we will find a way to keep both of them next year for sure but also likely in 2015.

After that I think logic says if they don't take a pay cut(or a cheapo extension to spread out the cap hit) then you have to cut them.
