Worst Major International Tournament Champion in your Lifetime?

Chalk this one up to random middle of the night thoughts...
In my opinion, without a doubt, it was the 2004 Euro Champion Greece team. Not many Americans remember this tournament because it wasn't broadcast on US TV and I don't know how live streaming sites were at the time. My dad ordered it on PPV and I watched almost every game.
This Greek team had absolutely no skill. They played in a defensive shell, 10 men behind the ball at all times, hoping to counterattack enough to win a free kick or corner, and somehow scoring on their rare set piece opportunity.
The Czech team in this tournament was one of my all time favorites. Pavel Nedved was fantastic, Rosicky was just emerging on the scene, Milan Baros was in the form of his life. The 3-2 group stage win over the Netherlands was possibly the best game I've ever seen.
When the two teams met in the semifinals, Czech Republic was by far the better team, but Greece won on a Silver Goal off a corner. An unsatisfying result for anyone who likes decent soccer.
Then Greece was outshot 17-4 by Portugal in the final, but their only shot on target was a goal and Greece took the title despite being one of the two or three least talented teams in the entire tournament.
TL-DR

Unless we have a poster who was born in 2005 or later, I don't see how anyone can disagree with you.
Denmark in 1992 is probably second, but they were much more enjoyable than the Greek squad of 2004.

That Denmark team was extremely talented Schmicheal, (the Laudrop brothers, Larsens, Neilsen and Povlsen. That was right in the middle of their WC qualification runs, including a Quarterfinal jaunt in 1998. and the Confederations win in 95 and placing 7th in the Euros in 88, and 9th in 96. Very consistent for a non-Tier 1 team.

that Greece team played flawless defense. I dunno what you are talking about saying it was not on TV. It was on fox sports world. I was so pissed when England crashed out on PK's

I looked it up last night because I distinctly remembered watching at least two games that weren't PPV. Apparently, Setanta held US English language rights and threw it on PPV. FSW negotiated to carry five games live: others on delay.

Did you get the actual Mexican stations? Or was Spanish language television simply more readily available?
Either way, pretty convenient.
I'm glad that finding games to watch is no longer a clusterfrick. Even streaming sucked/was impossible back then. I remember when SopCast only carried shitty, Chinese-language streams. I also remember when SopCast was useful.

I don't think it was a shot at Denmark. It's just hard to find major international tournament champions who weren't really good.

Yeah, that's the way I meant it. Denmark was the second worst, but still so much better than Greece in 2004

Germany 1990, wasn't all that. Oh, they were damn good, but that 1990 final between Germany and Argentina was so hard to watch.
That Denmark team was good, and on a considerably good run between 1986 and 1998.

The only answer is Greece.
Agreed. I actually used to really admire organized defensive play behind the ball (parking the bus, if you will).
Brendan Rodgers slapped some god damned sense into me though. I'll never be able to go back.

I think Argentinas style of play i.e. continuous foul/dirty play, was the direct cause, of a less than artistic game !
