MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offered an apology to the Romney family on Tuesday after a panel on her show mocked the fact that one of Mitt Romney's grandchildren is black. On Sunday's "Melissa Harris-Perry" show, Harris-Perry led a panel in discussing the "Photos of the Year," which included a Romney family Christmas photo.

quote:

In the photo, Romney is seen holding his adopted grandchild, Kieran, who is black. During the segment, guest panelist Pia Glenn sang, "One of these things is not like the others! One of these things just isn't the same," a reference to Kieran. "And that little baby, front and center, would be the one." For her part, Harris-Perry imagined Kieran Romney and North West, the daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, marrying in the future. When The Right Scoop first took note of the panel's comments Monday, it caused an uproar. Early Tuesday morning, Harris-Perry tweeted an apology. She noted that she comes from a mixed-race family, and that she felt "familiarity" with the photograph.

How can somebody who wore tampons on their ears possibly mock anyone?

If she's sincere, then I give her credit for doing the right thing.

Business as usual at MSNBC. Smear, smear, smear. If nobody objects, it's ok. If you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, all you have to do is give a half-hearted, disingenuous, classless apology. Then back to business as usual.

True sociopaths they are - the whole lot.

I wonder when Jesse Jackson will come out and say this was worse than Rosa Parks?

I am sure it was so heart felt an apology. She was told to do it or follow Bashir into the night. One would think that the big guys at NBC would take a look at the stars of the MS side o the company and the dismal as frick viewership numbers and finances and kill the network.

If anything the network is following the cable channel's lead. Recently I watched the Today Show for the first time in years and it was a complete pro Obama, anti GOP shindig.

Too late. Most will only remember the mocking but the good news for MSNBC is very few were watching in the first place.

I watched the original clip from her show and this is too ridiculous to even be called much ado about nothing.

There is no reason for any offense there and I give her credit for apologizing. I would not have.

They don't seem very tolerant of mixed race families. Why even bring this up? Why are people "emotional" about this photo, as Perry stated? Does a mixed race family bother MSNBC viewers or MSNBC hosts?

One of the members of the panel on the show chats "one of these things is not like the other" like some kind of 7 year old, and Perry bursts out in laughter. LINK

At least she didn't talk about defacating on people like MSNBC's Bashir did.

Yeah, it's not like Rush Limbaugh or Fox News do anything like that, right ? Naw, the conservative side are too perfect and pristine to ever broadcast rude remarks like Ms. Perry of MSNBC did, right ?

C'mon guys. Let's all agree on this point. So-called political media with slanted opinions on all sides of the political spectrum wrongly make biased comments toward a representative from he side ALL the time.

Someone was chanting "one of these things is not like the other" and the host started laughing while the rest of the panel mocked the mixed race family.

That's a little beyond political bias and banter. If you are being honest with yourself, you'd see that.

I've never seen anyone on Fox or any other major news network use family photos for a panel to mock a mixed race family and I don't listen to Rush. Link?

It has been over twenty years that I listened to Rush for more than a few minutes. You lose brownie points on that argument homey for most conservatives and that includes very host of a conservative show.

Right. They don't do it. Just the left does it. The last controversy with personal attack by Rush was the woman who wanted the govt to pay for her birth control because she wanted to frick everybody constantly. That would be a 'whore.'

Before that he called Chelsea Clinton ugly. She is ugly. It's not polite to say it but she is to the bone ugly.

So... In your view... Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News should be the standard bearers for media behaviors?

The right is held to a much higher standard than the left. You're either ignorant or in complete denial to state otherwise. To me it's even worse when the self righteous, hypocritical left does it.

I'm quite certain that Sharpton will devote at least a full segment to calling for Perry to be suspended or fired, and expressing his outrage over her outlandish comments. I've called my wife to have her set the DVR for his show this afternoon.

I don't agree that children are fair game to be made fun of even when their parents exploit them like North West but I chuckled at the comment that the photo captured the diversity of the Republican Party.
