Tips for coming to Philly

You can fly southwest direct to Newark NJ and take Amtrak or NJ Transit trains to Philly. US Air is the only airline with direct flights from MSY to PHL.
There is a Holiday Inn near the stadium(walking distance). The airport hotels are convenient to the stadiums, however there is no direct train from that area to the stadiums.
In the city, the subway goes to the stadiums, the marriott and courtyard marriott in center city are great to stay at and can usually be bid on Priceline.
WHO DAT!

And don't get shanked.
And wear layers. It will be fricking cold.

Really solid advice. Philly games are an experience.
No snow this weekend, Saints roll.

There are currently plenty of hotels on hotwire in the stadium area or center city (east/west) for less than $100. Yes, you take the train from the airport to center city (Market East/Suburban Station/30th Street) to pretty much any hotel in the downtown area. The game will be late and the fans will be drunk. The crowd is a little better since they opened the Link than the Vet crowd. A little better. Anywhere other than around the stadium, though, the fans won't be too bad (like if you are wearing your jersey in a center city or old city bar before the game or on Friday night).

Make sure one of those layers is kevlar. Wear neutral clothes getting to the stadium/your seat. Remove Saints gear immediately after the game and run for the exit when it's over.

That's no joke. My buddy went to a game up there. He's a big dude, but he said he didn't wear any colors, watched the game quietly, and said nothing as he walked out and watched his fellow fans get jumped.

Whatever you do don't show any emotion during or after the game win or lose. You will have shite thrown at you during the game or will be beat down going for concessions/bathroom or leaving the stadium.

You can fly southwest direct to Newark NJ
The early flight is mostly empty too. I took it a few months back and was one of only 30 people on the 737.

Delta has flight to Philly by way of Detroit though for $488RT but leaves back at 6AM Sun.!

Southwest to Newark or USAir to Philly is the way to go....screw layovers....and those flights can be had later in the morning/early afternoon

Great for those with open checkbook but just sayin those on budget the layover is cheaper (those are about $800/RT min.).

Sometimes southwest has cheap fairs last minute or people have miles to use.........the thing that drives the price up is trying to leave at noon or later on a Sunday.....those fares are usually jacked through the roof

Cheapest SW nonstop to NNJ is $757 right now for those without any miles, isn't that train a 2 hr ride? Showing $17, not bad.
Won't be able to make it but just curious the travel situation, interesting. Wish could afford to go, oh well.

Prayers sent for all visiting. You don't know what traffic is until you've sat on 76.
ETA: Flying in to NYC or DC is also an option as there are regional trains that run between the cities or you can hop a Megabus for $50 or so per person and be in Philly in around 2 hours.
Also, here is a post I made in another thread for those of you that may be making an extended stay. Just some other thingss to do in/around the city besides all of the historic stuff in center city.

If the weather is nice, go for a walk down Kelly Drive...it's 3 miles from the art museum to Manayunk. You can stop in at the Brew Pub in Manayunk for pretty good food and great beer and an awesome (heated) patio. Also have some nice shops there.
You could drive out to Valley Forge and explore the park, or go check out the trails at the Wissahickon Park (also near Manayunk).
You could go to Chestnut Hill for some nice little shops and a quaint town to explore.
The Barnes Foundation (private art gallery near the Art Museum) is an awesome building and place in general.
Always the King of Prussia mall near Valley Forge if that's your thing.
Or you can check out uwishunu.com for events in the city and other things to do.
Plenty of great restaurants and bars to check out as well.
Frankfordhall Hall in Northern Liberties/Fishtown area is an awesome Winter time day drinking place...I always go when I'm up there
ETA: Forgot to add, NYC and DC are 2 hour bus rides away. You can get round trip tickets on a Megabus for like $50/person IIRC.

Amtrak from Newark(EWJ is the code I believe) to Philly is about 50 minutes and 100 dollars round trip.
NJ transit is about 30 dollars round trip. You take the Trenton bound train and when it gets to Trenton you get off and take the SEPTA train to Philadelphia. That trip is about an hour and 45 minutes because it stops a lot more.
Agreed with all the sections above. Manayunk is a nice section to hang out. It's a strip of bars/restaraunts that's relatively safe. Valley Forge park is cool.

Game-goers are basically entering the Hunger games.

I've driven in Philly, DC and NYC. DC is the worst hands down.

Everyone here in Pitt has told me not to go. Said it really is unsafe and unpleasant.
