Just got a brand new cast iron pot w/ enamel and the rim of the pot and lid do not seem to be coated. Does that part need to be oiled like a normal cast iron? Whats the best method for cleaning?

Are you sure it's not matte coated with black enamel?

My Le Creuset is like that. I just use soap and water and give the exposed iron time enough to dry thoroughly before putting the lid on.

I have one also, after washing and drying just rub around the rim with a little oil like you would a cast iron pot/skillet.

I don't do anything special to the rim and it hasn't had any problems

I got a 6qt Martha Stewart enamel pot for Christmas. Pretty pumped, as I've wanted an enameled pot for a while
Fwiw, the instructions mention to rub a light coat of oil on the exposed areas like you mentioned ( mine has the same exposed parts on the rims of the pot and lid)

This is the correct answer.

this was my first as well... be careful with it, the rim will definitely rust and the enamel will chip. I got rid of it right before I got married and now have several Le Creuset pieces. Have not had any problems with the rusting on the rim and I never oil them.

Le Creuset rims aren't Uncoated...it's a matte black undercoating that shows thru on a first quality piece. On factory seconds, you might see some variations.
