We went to Peche last night and it was great. We had the Jumbo Reds, crab and artichoke fritters, and a half dozen raw. The shrimp were a garlicky take on BBQ shrimp heavy on the green onion but without an abundance of worcestershire. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and easy to peel. The sauce was rich and buttery but not too rich. The sauce was cooked into the heads which gave them a really tangy pop when I sucked out the contents much to my wife's chagrin.

The fritters have the consistency of hush puppy but not as dense. They are served with caramelized onions and clarified butter. The fritters were fried but still delicate with an excellent balance between the crab and artichokes. My wife usually finds crab overpowering but she really enjoyed it. The oysters were great, very briny and a great size.

We decided to split an entree after so many apps. We had the Baked Drum with squash fritters. The drum was cooked perfectly, flaky and moist and served in a spicy broth. I want to say it was a chili broth but I can't be sure. Either way it was delicious and kept dipping the squash fritters in it. The fritters were equally as good as the app fritters but these had a squash sweetness with chopped shrimp inside. I normally would have been disappointed by getting the same thing twice in the same meal, but these were different enough to be a great choice. For a side we had cauliflower and rice casserole, that is so getting ripped off for Christmas dinner. Think broccoli cheese rice but much lighter with a crunchy crust of bread crumbs on top. It also got dipped in that fantastic broth.

We finished up with the lemon icebox pie. Rich lemony custard topped with whipped cream and with light toffee shavings on a graham cracker crust. An excellent ending to a fantastic meal.

The wife as got a 3rd Ward Zombie from the bar but I didn't try it. I was attempting to sober up from too many Vespers at SouBo.

All in all fantastic service and food, I highly recommend it.

Great review. If it's not the best new restaurant of the year I don't know what is. I've yet to have a bad, hell, even a mediocre meal there.

I actually prefer their hushpuppies to their fritters. Best hush puppies I've ever had.

I realty wish I hadn't over done it with the drinks prior to dinner because I would have ordered way more food.

Did they offer any raw fish?

Yeah, they have a whole raw bar, and like seemingly every new place in NO these days, they will do a daily 'crudo' plate.

Good place.

I shot from the hip. My wife kind of limits what I order because she is a little particular with her seafood. Also in my defense, a tipsy ninja will just go with the flow. I was eyeing the whole fish but after we decided to share an entree that was blocked. I wanted her to get a good impression so when I suggest we go back she will jump on board. Then I'm going to go off!

I don't think Gaston eats anything that's been cooked.

Also Belloqc got ruled out after the Somali pirate taxi driver lost his mind because I had a drink in the cab. My exiting line was, "I am your customer not Captain Phillips so check your tone.. Oh and I still tipped you even though you were being a prick Abdul"

I like my meat raw and my veggies to be burned. IDK. I'd eat crudo until I'd tried everything they had.

If I would have been with a bigger group I would have done just that.

Great review.

I sent my mother there yesterday for lunch. She loved it.

You made some really solid choices but you did miss out on the crudo/raw options for starters. Peche really excels with their raw preps. IMO.

Was it just you girls last night?

Place is fantastic and has quickly become one of my favorites.

My gf doesn't drink beer. Still doesn't "limit" my beer intake .. or anything else I do in life that she happens to not enjoy.

Pitty. Food & Wine named it a top 10 new dish of 2013.

I feel weird getting oysters at a place that nice but I really wanted some so I went lite. I guess I just view them as a common food that get all the time.

Limit was a poor choice of words. I could have went off and ordered everything I wanted but she tends to lean on my choices when it comes to seafood. It was a mild sacrifice to make her more comfortable rather than have her sit there and watch me gorge on food she wouldn't have eaten.

I try and be less of a food snob monster especially when I was about 5 drinks in by the time she got to town last night. The Ninja is a bit of a booze hound when I cross that Orleans Parish line.
