LA raised so I don't get much hockey. Not that I really care for the sport anyway. I do admire the athleticism it requires though. And it's a sport full of brawlers.

So that brings me to my point, who's the best fighter to ever step on the ice?

You guys are probably too young to remember John Kordic, the Habs player only around or fighting who was so roided up that he broke pairs of handcuffs when he got arrested.

You could also go tie Domi who would have kicked the shite out of any player you mentioned in this thread.

Surprised that nobody mentioned Derek Boogaard who crushed a dude's skull with one punch.

The fighter with the most talent is probably Gordie Howe, Brendan Shannahan, or Wendel Clark....

I think to qualify as "most badass" you should have talent. A guy who is tough and can play.

Most of the others mentioned are just goons on skates. That's not badass.

If you want toughness + skill, then the conversation probably begins and ends with Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe.

Best fighter? All these guys bringing up modern players are funny. The Broad Street Bullies were some mean SOB's, and Tiger Williams still holds the PIM record.

But I'll go with either Tie Domi or Bob Probert. Their heavyweight bouts were epic. Probert also was a cocaine addict, so that helped with the fighting. But I give the edge to Domi for this:

Yes, that happened. It was awesome. Who amongst us has not wanted to beat up a flyers fan? Also, the Domi sucker punch on Ulf Samuelsson was the greatest thing ever:

Rumor has it, Ulf was so loathed around the league that the players took up a collection to pay Domi's fine.

As for toughest SOB ever, it's either Dale Hunter or Gordie Howe. Hunter could fight but he was known more as a guy who would kill you in the run of play.

I love Dale Hunter so much, even have a Hunter jersey. When the Cap Centre closed down, they gave him the penalty box. For real.

But still...

Tie f'n Domi.

Not to mention Gordie played so long that he was able to play on a team with 2 of his sons. This isn't baseball. He played professional HOCKEY until he was 51 or 52. Only player to play in the all-star game in 5 different decades.

I'd go with Probert, but I'm sure there were guys before his time that were more badass.

I'll also submit Craig McTavish, simply because he was the last player I can remember to not wear a helmet when it was still allowed.
