I live near the river and I seen one 20 yard away with spot light I was in my boat

Well, I don't know about Louisiana but I live in SW Mississippi, only about 40 miles from the Louisiana border and I see them here all the time. I don't think that my imagination is vivid enough to cook one up if it were not there. I never thought to look for one or say that I had seen one until I started seeing them. I also don't know much about Bigfoot - never seen one of them! But I do know a big-mouth when I hear one and someone that says that there are no black panthers in Louisiana is probably just shooting their big mouth off about something they no nothing about!

It's been about twenty years or so ago but me and my wife were heading to the deer camp and a huge black cat ran across the highway with several hounds in pursuit. All I'm saying is it was a cat and was bigger than any cat I have seen outside of a zoo. I remember saying boys you don't even want to corner that dude .

quote:

Donna Shoemake
I haven't seen one in years but then again I'm not out looking for one lol but I do believe they are still around in La. I grew up in Beauregard and believe me they lived in our woods had a encounter with one fishing on the creek one day I've never been so scared or amazed at the same time. She/he never once try to attack us but we didn't give it a chance either we jumped in the creek and swam across to the other side lol I do hope they are still around such a beautiful cat

Animals wonder everywhere they don't stop at state lines.I have heard we have them in southeast Louisiana

quote:

William Wright I've bn reading these posts in regards to the black cats. About 7 years ago I was traveling north on 49 nearing the Chopin exit n had a large black animal dart out from the medium n hit the side of my ambulance. I pulled over n checked for damage then backed up and discovered it was a very large black cat like a panther or cougar. Unfortunately the phone I had wouldn't let me send pictures n I no longer have it.

Bull crap I seen With my own two eyes they are liars

quote:

I seen a Big Black Cat cross the road in front of me Years ago. If it wasn't a Black Leopard, what was it? It sure wasn't a Black Dog or a house cat.

quote:

Hunter Pearson
I once saw a Sasquatch eat a Panther in my food plot.. Right here in South Lousiana.. Come on.. Y'all don't believe me? I am obviously a more credible source than the entire department of wildlife and fisheries.. Not.. Keep up the good work, LDWF..

quote:

Jason Kellar
I've seen three panthers. One black that was so starved down it moved out of the road just long enough for me to pass before returning back to eating something so mangled from being run over I couldn't tell what to was. It didn't have the strength to move what it was eating out of the road. The black is not nearly as common as the brown but they do exists.

I saw a large black cat in alabama 12 year ago, not only once but twice. It may not have been a panther but it surely wasnt a domestic cat. Several members of our lease saw it. I would estimate weight at 90 lbs+. The first time i saw him he went after a nice 8 pt buck that i was about to shoot. The AL wildlife and fisheries claimed there was none there either.

my BIL and brother swears they have seen a long black cat, low to the ground, with a huge arse tail at our camp.

Me and my dad hunt there much more than they do and have never seen such a thing....

Do not believe the government. They lie in order to control the people. If Joe 6pack thought there were black panthers runnin loose, there would be widespread panic.

MOST of the time people are seeing house cats or they're drunk and think a squirrel is a black panther. But, once in a while someone will see a mountain lion in low light and think it's black.

Not black panthers but Nat. Geo has a pretty good article on the expansion of mountain lions. This map is interesting:

I think there are more mountain lions out there than we really know. They're very secretive. I know of at least two seasoned hunters that I trust that say they've seen big cats. And I'm as big a skeptic as anyone.

Not sure what year, but MSWebfoot was in the Navy at the time and home on leave during the Holidays. A great friend invited us to his camp in Concordia Parish, not too far north of Blackhawk. He put us on a large power line ROW in box stands. It was a rainy day, just a heavy drizzle. A LARGE tawny cat with a LONG tail came out across the ROW. I tracked it in my scope as it crossed. It appeared to be as cougarish as a cougar can get.
At camp that night we discussed this over supper and my friend related that in October that season , he and a friend had bow-killed a couple does and left them hanging in an A-frame. That night, his old Basset hound Rufus, that was an expert at locating wounded deer started growling at the back door. They opened the door and Rufus tore out. They kept calling him, especially when they got to the a-frame to find one of the does gone.
Rufus came running back with his tail tucked and scooted in the house. The next morning they tracked the drag to the edge of a swamp, where they found the partially eaten deer and some large tracts that were definitely NOT bear. They found a book that had track ID and they were definitely cat tracks.
IDGAF what LDWF says, there are cougars in La., maybe not BLACK ones, but cougars nonetheless.
I also saw one cross the Main road before daylight in the Tensas River NWR last year. Nothing else in the woods is that big with a LONG tail.

quote:

Robert, I see one here each spring with her cubs. She must run the area about 3 miles from my cabin. They are native to the SE United States. I do believe that they may be rare in some areas do to people killing them off. Also, they are know to avoid any close contact to human and keep deep in the forest. The fact that I see them crossing the blacktop roads here speaks loudly to me that there must be quite a few of them in this area. Also, in speaking with my neighbors that have hunting camps here, many of them have told me that they also have seen them.

HE SEES THEM EVERY SPRING WITH CUBS!!!
