Clearly he is the best since JR and arguably better than JR was IMO

His only poor outing was against Ole Miss this year. Even in the losses to Bama and UGA he played very well.

It might be a decade before we see another QB that good at LSU

Somewhere between 5-10.

However, he could possibly have one of the best Pro careers of any LSU QB.

Somewhere below All-SEC, Manning award winner Jamarcus Russel.

About where David Woodley ranks. Good, but not great.

The kid acquitted himself well during his years at LSU despite not having a legit OC until this year.

Not ready to bestow Bert Jones status on him but definitely in the top five. Big potential moving on to the NFL.

Mettenberger is the best I've seen at LSU, and I go back to Lynn Amedee in 1960. Bert Jones and I were students at LSU at the same time. Bert was the best I've seen before Mett. Both, I think, have been better than Jamarcus. I didn't get to see Y A Tittle while he was at LSU, but he was amazing while playing with the Giants.

LSU is not a school great QBs gravitate to--why, I don't know. Mett was one of two great QBs Georgia recruited at the same time (Aaron Murray.) They get great ones all the time, and we had to get our best one as a cast off from Georgia.

Anthony Jennings may change that. Georgia didn't even recruit him; they had someone already they felt was better. When Jennings stepped to the 1 yard line with little time left I felt we had no chance. The boy is just out of high school. He then took LSU down the field like an All American senior, like McCarron did against us last year, like Bert Jones did against Ole Miss in '72 ('71?) Just astonishing. He may become one of the great legends of LSU.

Since 2000 ...

1) JR
2) Mett
3) Rohan
4) Flynn
5) Mauck

JR gets the nod over Mett because his remarkable season was as a Junior.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but the thing that shocks me the most about the numbers you posted are the amount of attempts Jeff Wickersham had during his 3 years as starting QB. He averaged 332 attempts per year when the next QB (Hodson) only averaged 291 attempts per year.

Rohan and ZM are a toss up -- totally a matter of opinion.

Meh. JL nor JJ ever lost to UAB like Booty did, even though JL needed a huge comeback to beat Troy.

Then statistically, LSU has never had a better than "good" QB.

Probably behind Rohan, tied with JR. Hard to gauge modern QB's against the QB's like Hodson and Jones.

Jones was the most gifted QB LSU ever had.

I remember those year. Talk about some dark times at LSU. I remember they had to make him a special helmet because he kept getting concussions.
