Guess which prestigious program would have earned yet another trip to the "championship series" without having won their own division, much less their conference, while playing the weakest schedule (again, by design) in their conference.

You people here don't think this four team playoff next year isn't going to be a farce when it comes to the "big time" programs like Bama, USC, Ohio State, etc, when the chips are down and ratings are needed?

Losing big November games are going to become LUXURIES for these teams. Rest up while some other dumbass school plays the extra games to either earn the right to play undeserved rematches in the final 4, or lose out of the final 4 completely. (This could happen to Auburn if the playoff was happening this year and they lost the SECCG).

Oh yeah. I've got my popcorn.

Said this when they announced 4 team playoff. SEC gets screwed. We have 3vs4 possibly in the SEC Champ. Loser gets screwed and a 5 ranked Bama automatically makes it.

Not the point of the thread. Thanks for playing, though.

Congrats on the three-peat!

This is tough because let's say ASU beats Stanford next week. I have a hard time saying ASU should be in that playoff over Bama. But, if they want conference champions only, that's fine.

It's up to a committee and I'm pretty sure they are going to heavily weight winning your own conference.

Not really. Just depends on who the potential SEC representatives are.

For example, Bama would be the only SEC program, besides maybe UF, that could not win the SEC and make a championship series.

Other big programs are going to benefit from this too. USC, for example, could finish third in the Pac12 and make the final 4 with one loss...

Only teams that won their division and/or conference should be eligible for the 4 team playoff.

And I agree with what you are saying 100%. Bama should go. Without a doubt. But it is how they are getting there, especially when you consider scheduling advantages on top of the scenarios I listed on the OP. You can't have double standards like that for those teams. Look at OSU this year. That's a pathetic joke.

The #4 team in the country.

What's the fricking problem?

This selection committee is going to be full on corruption/bias at its finest. It will be an even bigger joke than what we see now.

This idea is over a decade old, and it's still dumb. Not every team is in a conference.

I still don't understand how this is the only division of football anywhere that doesn't have a true playoff system. It is really sad.

As of next year, there will be 4 independents: Notre Dame, BYU, Army, and Navy.

Why is only having division or conference champions in the playoffs a dumb idea?

Notre Dame can join a conference or shut up.

Because not every team is in a conference. Also because a conference championship only refers to a fraction of your season. If you require a conference championship or a division championship, OOC games literally do not count.

Requiring conference championships is not a possibility, sorry.
