When you're blowing say just a greeting call, how do you get that little whine, or drawn out kind of moan at the end of each note?

I know what your talking about but really don't know how to tell you to do it other than just trail off your air.

seems like some people gotta and some don't. I don't. I have been blowing a duck call for years and on a scale from 1 to 10 I might be a 3. I can't carry a tune in a bucket either.

some very good duck callers have tried to teach me and still I am not very good. If the ducks want to be where I am, I kill them. If they are just looking I can't coax them in. that is why I am primarily a deer hunter.

I really like the RNT 3 cd series on duck calling.

I've had it for probably 15yrs so I don't know if it's still even made or available.

Might sound weird but act like you're biting the end of the call. Don't actually bite it but right behind it. Do it while biting your wind off. That's how I do a squeal, like when a duck has a full throat of rice or food. Hope that helps

This is sort of difficult to learn b/c you can frick it up royally while trying to get them in. practice in your truck. Once you get it, it sounds good. Also, learn how to do it on all of your mallard calls as each is a tad different.

First of all you're going to have to have a call that has "hold" in the call. That means that it naturally has a decent amount of back pressure. When you make your quack you move your tongue down as you increase pressure. To put the "Cajun squeal" on it move your tongue back up about half way and cut your air volume in half while maintaining the same velocity. This is possible because the area between your tongue and top if your mouth is now smaller. You can also stall the in between notes in your feed call and create a "bouncing hen"

I got a 7.5 hour one tomorrow and I still need to learn to call. Think my fiance and dog will appreciate it?

Not trying to sound like a dick but I would get a good CD and enjoy your drives until you got another call. The reason the DR 85 is so popular is because it doesn't matter how you blow it the sound is the same. This is great for people that are new to duck calling but not worth a shite for trying to make other sounds. The extra reed in a duck call is like a training wheel on a bike. It helps you ride straight and it's real easy to do but if you want to do tricks you have to remove the training wheels. Buy a good single reed and get as good with it as you are with your double. Then start mixing in some of the different sounds.
