Had 1st kid in October. Thanksgiving is at the in laws. Ole lady says it's fine if I want to leave after thanksgiving dinner to go to the camp for a night or two. She and my son will stay at the in laws til Sunday and she will have plenty of help from her sister and mom. Should I feel bad about leaving ?

No, go have a good time at the camp and then come home recharged and help her with the baby.

Nope she said it. Don't bring it up again until your telling her bye after dinner!

I am in the same boat my man. We have a 6 month old. I will be going hunting. I will deal with the consequences when i get back.

I'm skinning out to the camp as soon as I can choke some turkey down Thursday. Wife's is on call/has to work Thur-Sunday. Kid's birthday is Friday. I probably should feel bad for leaving. I should at least give more than zero fricks. I should. But I'm a man, dammit. A hunter/gatherer. A provider. It's cold. It's only gonna get colder. Stuff needs killing. Meat needs to be stocked up. Let the women and chirren lay up in the heated house. Let em lay up with the peace of mind that daddy's out there in the elements hunting. Gathering. Providing. Drinking Old Charter and kicking a fire.

I don't see any problem with it. I thought this was standard behavior with all married hunters whether they had kids or not.

It's probably a trap but I'd do it anyway.

I encounter this type of situation on a regular basis. 3 kids, youngest is 6months. I normally feel very guilty when I leave to go hunting, but I've found that the best way to combat this is to start a couple of days ahead of time. Make sure the dishwasher is empty and kitchen is clean, fill her vehicle up with gas, cook a large enough meal so there is leftovers for the next day. Wash your hands and leave!! Psychologically it works for me. You don't have to worry about that in this case, b/c you got a free pass, NEVER pass on a free-pass!

Sort of a trap, but not really and I am in exactly the same boat.
She will be at her parents, how much actual work will she do vs her mom? Your in laws will love the opportunity to help, at least mine did.

No. If you give in now, you'll be setting precedent. You've got to train your woman right.
