Is your love for LSU based on performance? Meaning when they preform badly do you love them less? That's the kind of fan I have been until I had a deep discussion with one of my very religious friends yesterday. His wife backed the car in to the babysitters car for the second time this year . Most of us would be ready to kill our wives for that. He said something that took me by surprise. He said his love for his wife is not based on her performance.

I can tell you for a fact that until yesterday I loved LSU football based on performance and I was missing the boat. I think a lot us make the same mistake and I can tell you I won't do it again.

For those of us who hung in there during the 90's, there is only one answer to you question. Basing your support on performance only is fare weathered fandom.

As my wife sometimes says: "I love you, but I don't like you very much right now."

That's what so very puzzling to me about this board.
Before the bama game all these "fans" talking about how badly bama was going to crush us. Then after ward they are all pissed off because we got crushed at the end of the game.
I just enjoy the whole LSU experience. As goofy as les is I still support him. Chavis and cam are a blessing.
There is always a rainbow after the storm. Enjoy life every second of the day, you never know when it will end.

So you're comfortable with LSU being mediocre. I am not. So to answer your question:

Not necessarily. But the amount of hate for the folks running the program is.

Though worded differently, we essentially had this discussion the other day in another thread where is became about WHY we are LSU fans.

I'm 43...I was a fan before we started winning like we are now, so clearly my fandom is based on something OTHER than straight up success. That does NOT mean I am happy with "mediocrity" or that I'm complacent, but it does mean that in those years where we are somewhat disappointing I feel no reason to start screaming for the coach's head are start yammering about giving up my seats.

You're gonna' get eviscerated for this post, btw...

That was such a miserable walk. Thank god I left with 2 minutes left in the game or I probably would have ended up in jail for fighting some loudmouth Bama fans.

I ask this question sincerely. You are free to answer or not.

When did you become a fan? I ask because if you consider the state (the past few years and the perceived direction for the next few) of the program to currently be mediocre, for how long were you a happy LSU fan? When was LSU good enough to warrant you being fully on board because they were better than now?

It seems like a VERY small window.

The 90's?? I hung in with Stovall, Archer, and Hallman. Arnsparger years were good. I wished he would have stayed because he would probably have won a NC here. Stovall's last year LSU was 0-6 in the SEC. I went to every game and stayed the entire game and never once left early. People are bitching about maybe going 10-3 do not have anything to bitch about. People have forgot how it was or they never knew how it was!!

Let me put it to you this way: I saw a big $60 LSU garbage can this morning at the Ace Hardware in The Woodlands.....thought seriously about buying it and still may.

If I'm willing to waste money on a fricking garbage can at the same time all this shite is going on, then I have to believe I love them through thick and thin.

Been going to LSU games for 40 years, that would not be possible if I based my love/interest/enthusiasm solely on performance. Unfortunately, the new generation is more about "now, now, now" and loses interest quickly when things don't go their way, much the way they view life in general which is why our society is in the shape it's in-no backbone, no tradition, and no "stick-to-it-ness".

I love my Tigers through thick and thin. I look at some of the posters on this board and think I must get much more enjoyment from LSU football (and other sports) than these miserable bitches.

Thank you for your post!

Am I disappointed that we have lost 3 games? Absolutely! I'm quite confident the players are disappointed as well, and need our support more than ever!

Will I cease to support our Tigers? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

As long as they take the field, I will be there to suuport them ~~ win or lose!

If your happiness and loyalty of the LSU Tigers is based on always winning, you will most assuredly be disappointed and unhappy. Cherish the wins, learn from the losses and be a true fan!

I am very thankful my family and friends don't base their like/dislike of me based on my performance! Just sayin.......

Still love them, but I am not happy, at all, when they do not perform well.

I love the Tigers so much that performing at sub-level capability and effort makes me feel sad, disappointed, and frustrated. never not a fan though
