quote:

While there’s plenty of chapter-and-verse to quote regarding the background of Dolphins guard and alleged bully Richie Incognito, less has been discussed about the qualities of Jonathan Martin, the bullied.

But Martin’s high school coach said that based on the player he coached, he’s not surprised another player zeroed in on Martin.

“Bullies usually go after people like him,” Harvard-Westlake School coach Vic Eumont told Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post. “With his background, he’s a perfect target.”

After attending an upscale private high school, and then attending Stanford, there was a certain element Martin wasn’t exposed to along the way, and Eumont said that was going to be an adjustment.

Before he wasn’t around Nebraska, LSU kind of guys,”Eumont said. “He’s always been around Stanford, Duke, Rice kind of players. . . .

In locker rooms full of Nebraska, LSU, Southern Cal players, Miami players, they’ll look at this as a weakness. If he makes it through all this, and if he was encouraged to come back, he’d come back with a vengeance.”

Thoughts?

Absolving your guy by randomly tarnishing another guy with generalizations.
Solid approach.

Think about what's going on with all of this right now. A grown arse man is having an "emotional breakdown" over some silly prank and comments in a football locker room. Remember that parents, the next time your little Johnny is standing in line to get his participation ribbon after a game where they didn't keep score.

Didn't Eumont coach at Jesuit pre-Katrina? If that's the case then the reference to LSU wouldn't be that surprising.

He just stereotyping everybody from football schools as dumb jocks, not necessarily saying they're bullies.

I think he was just using LSU metaphorically as representative of major college football programs.

LSU kind of guys? Oh he means kick your ARSE kinda guys.

Just for the record...I don't agree with what happened to him...but ya know...maybe "Stanford, Duke, Rice" need to create their own league...oh wait Flag football already exists!!

Can't understand how a 300+ lb man wouldn't stand up to someone supposedly bullying him. Knock the shite out of Incognito and be done with it. Even if he got his arse whipped, that would likely earn him more respect from his peers than acting the way he did.

This is grown men football. Act like it or get the hell out.

On the field, I'd want to be known as a bully as opposed to "a nice guy". Come on, this is football.

This makes no sense considering that there are no LSU players on that roster.

I'd rather our players be lumped in with Nabraska, USC, Miami, etc......... than Rice, Duke and those non-football playing pansies (Stanford excepted).

Just saying.

Everything I've read indicates the behavior/treatment went beyond "some silly prank and comments". This has nothing to do with an entitlement culture and everything to do with Incognito apparently being an enormous piece-of-shite.
