The Gerber/Fiskars ones are the best IMHO

I have one from Lowes too. I had to sharpen it the first time I used it.

Those plastic handles chew into your hands after a few hours of whacking. It also feels like hitting a baseball with the end of the bat when you catch something wrong. My Gerber was $50 or something and well worth it. Much better steel

Even most of the "good" machetes don't come sharpened. You have to sharpen them yourself. I have a "heavy machete" from Cold Steel. I had to sharpen that one too. If you have a belt grinder, it would be fast and easy.

The Bear Grills ones are pretty sharp and have a nice handle.

a buddy of mine bought one of those when we were cruising timber one day. After about an hour, we came out to a fire road, and he set it down and said "frick this thing". It was too heavy and cumbersome to bring in the woods
