What type of restaurant would you like to see in Baton Rouge? No chains or anything like that....

If you were to open/start a restaurant what would it be? What kinds food, etc?

Restaurants with a true rotating menu and not the same items for years on end.

What if it was just 1 or 2 (main entree) things done REALLY well....and that was it?

Anything could work, I guess. Would have to be some phenomenal dish to survive as an upstart.

In the case as a straight crawfish restaurant or jambalaya I see how restaurants have been able to do it.

If BR had a culture other than LSU sports maybe there would be a focus more on food and music.

It's what it is, mostly roughnecks and college town. Hurts restaurants that 45 minutes down the road is NOLA.

Nothing for BR people looking for great food to make that drive.

I'd love to have a real good Chinese restaurant in South BR...China Express on Coursey used to be just that until the owner got tired of competing with all the nasty arse picture menu Chinese places that seemingly pop up overnight in every shopping center. It's still called China Express, but the food there is total crap now.

Hunan and Oriental Pearl are just meh IMO.

Authentic Greek takeout place. Zorba's is the only authentic Greek place we have and it's more of a sit down place.

Gastropub, great beer selection and unique takes on American/Cajun food to pair.

German and gastropub ideas sound great but would BR market support that? Any restaurant that does a "spin" on Cajun is very risky.

How about a restaurant that actually is good, rather than one that Baton Rougeans think is good.

To answer your question, just clone Sylvain, Coquette, or Boucherie and relocate said restaurant to BR so I won't have to make that drive a few times a month.

shite, why don't we try to get somewhere in Baton Rouge that can do Cajun properly first before we start hoping for unique takes?

This. It amazes me that going 40 minutes west to Laffy (or to NOLA) can make such a drastic
difference in the food.

A reliably good, true French bistro.

Jambalaya plate lunch place with good boudin within walking distance of LSU.

A curbside and/or Dolce de Vita brick and mortar restaurant in Baton Rouge

A place that makes po'boys almost as good as Parkway's within 5 miles of LSU.

They would have to clone Ave Pub as well to make it worth it.
