Despite the loss the team played better than I expected

Holiday and Gordon exceeded my expectations by a good margin, Evans disappointed a bit, and everyone else did what I expected them to do, which wasn't necessarily good, but also wasn't a surprise.

I think the biggest question is can Withey save us from blowing assets to get a center this season. I really don't want to do that because we should be able to get a good enough center with the MLE next offseason.

Holiday really did a much better job and limited it to 2 turnovers. I think it helped that others took on more ball-handling than we saw much of the preseason. And his 3 ball looks like a legit weapon.

Definitely. I think Anderson was a big loss and really hampered our rotations of bigs. There were times where Onuaku was playing PF. I never want to see that. Stiemsma did have 5 rebounds...

FIFY

he disappeared with an amazing 0 points in the third, just as he did last year. he was good in the 4th but that was a bit too late.

Withey's gonna turn into the most popular player on the team without ever playing.

But in all seriousness, he can't possibly be worse than Stiemsma. Can't be. Unless Withey's just a moron and has the basketball IQ of a rock, I don't see how he doesn't start to get playing time fairly soon. There's nothing physically Steamer gives, that Withey can't.

Plus i'm already over Stiemsma's constant bitching over obvious fouls that he's committed. Like last night when he was already in foul trouble and decided to just push a guy out of bounds in front of the ref and Pacers' bench. Then had the balls to complain about the call.

Also fwiw, Robin Lopez did Robin Lopez things last night. 3pts 2 rebounds in 34 minutes. And Miles Plumlee went for 18/15 on him

I expected reke to have a bad game. The pacers defend the rim as good as anyone. I was very happy with Jrue, especially his jumpshot.

My "I'm done with Stiemsma" moment came when there was a Pacer beat his defender driving the baseline and Stiemsma just watched him take a layup under the basket. There was no way for Stiemsma to stop the layup, but him taking a step or 2 could have effected the shot, but he just watched it happen. It's your rim Greg, you're supposed to protect it.

The 3rd Q was just brutal. Everyone was just settling for jumpers and they simply weren't falling. Then again, the way the refs were calling it in the 2nd half, we probably would have lost a man or 2 without any fouls called had we attacked the rim.

EG looked good. He was quite in the 3rd, but didn't really attack.
JH looked good.
AD looked like a budding star.
Reke looked rusty and still hurting. Should be better once fully healthy.
J Smooth played his azz off as usual.
AFA did a good job defending early on. Then seemed to lose confidence once he bricked a few shots.
Was hoping that Roberts would give us a spark, but he did little.
Everyone else, Meh.

Still a good opener against a damn good team.

Hate to always put blame on the refs, but damn they were terrible the 2nd half. Hibbert was straight running over dudes and they wouldn't call anything.
Just the way it goes.

This team will be fun to watch.

Yep, I remember thinking the same thing on that play. A couple years ago this guy was a nice shot blocker. Now he's useless in the paint.

What we know about Withey is that he average 4 blks per game last year at Kansas. I believe thats usually something that translates

I don't think we can really bash Gordon for disappearing in the 3rd when everyone else did. His play at the very end of the game showed me that he will be our closer this year

It has to say something about Withey if he can't get off the bench with Onuaku, Thomas, and Stiemsma playing as poorly as they did. Maybe they see some long term potential with him, but it must be a long way down the line, because Monty's not even thinking about using him. He didn't even play that much in the scrimmage on Saturday.

It says he's a rookie. If the poor center play continues and Withey's still not getting minutes by January/February then it may say something about him.

Gordon looked good. I was just was wanting him back in the game when Indy started making their run and we were getting stagnant on offense. I thought we coulda used some of his creativeness to help quell their run. He sat for a while in the 4th too.

Yeah, I'm not so sure you can nitpick this first game. There is a pretty glaring vacancy at C, but all-in-all, a win was the only thing I missed last night. Once we get some more games under our belt, this team is going to be so ridiculous to watch. With Ryno healthy, the added deep threat is going to make Reke's dribble drive so much more effective. The Pacers got some calls to go there way, couple that with our scoring drought in the 3rd, and they had the opportunity to take the game. They're a good team, good teams do that. I don't doubt for a second that we will do to other good teams what they did to us last night.

All I know is, I am stoked for our team!

Monty threw Davis out there v Hibbert in the 4th, which was interesting and the right move.

Would love to hear why he didnt put Evans in to end the game. If Davis is your 5, then Aminu was the best 4 available. Thomas was a disaster.

This stuff worries me with Monty. He needs to go all in on the unorthodox roster he has
