I am coordinating a meeting at the Marriott across from the Convention Center and would like some recommendations for some moderate-priced lunch/dinner spots. The more "local" the better. Would be nice to not have to spend all our down time in the Quarter. I, and all the out-of-state folks, thank you for your advice.

The 6 or 7 blocks surrounding your hotel are probably the best dining in the whole city. Root, La Boca, Cochon et al., Peche, Carmo, Emeril's (good lunch deal) are all very close.

Lots of good suggestions already.

Bon Ton Cafe to add one more.

I assume you're not looking for a spot for a 200 top?

How big a group are you looking for?

Also, add Herbsaint to the list.

"Yes we have a group of 200 with no reservations. We demand to be seated now. Are fancy jeans acceptable?"

There is a problem with 200 folks showing up without reservations?! I am scheduling several meals "on your own" and expect project teams to head out for ad hoc meetings with good food and drink. Of course, any large group will make reservations. I will just provide a list of acceptable places, brief descriptions and a map. It is a crime to get all your meals for 4 days at the conference hotel.

Could be mistaken, but I don't think they all expected to dine together.

I think most people with sense knew what you meant.

I second Luke, Cochon Butcher, Peche, American Sector... all good places.
