Now that I've finished school and am working, my dad moved my insurance to my name and billing location. I'm paying about $165 per month with State Farm now, lost the multi car deal when the billing location switched to my mom's house (permanent address for now). I explored Geico and can save $80-100 per month but it says for the first 6 months.

What happens after that 6 months? I am currently renting and will not buy a house until next year so there is currently no home insurance involved.

Thanks

Think twice before you switch. Geico doesn't have the best reputation for claims handling or for sticking by you after an accident. And if you need homeowner's insurance in a few years, you won't get the hefty multi-policy discount from Geico because they don't write HO insurance.

Being the typical salesman that they are, the question was ducked and answered in ways that avoided the question. Which makes me believe that they will indeed go up in 6 months.

So you're saying that I'd be better off staying with State Farm? This is all new to me.

ETA. No need to be a fricking dick SG

I have had Geico for 6 years now with no problems. No the rates do not go up after 6 months and the longer you are with them the cheaper they go.

My car was totaled by someone with no insurance and I had no issues getting Geico to pay me off within a week. Pretty easy process.

Sure they do. Not in BR, but I have no idea where the OP is

They gave me a HO quote that pretty much matched my LM policy. I didnt switch due since it was the same though and I didnt gain anything with the auto.

do you have renters insurance?

with the multi policy discount, your renters insurance would just about be free if you kept your car insurance with SF

I do not but have been considering it over the past few weeks. It would be nice for all of my hunting and fishing supplies. Firearms aren't cheap to replace.

With State Farm, it would give me the multi policy benefit which would only make it an additional $3 per month.

Also, I'm in Baton Rouge now, plan on moving to Central next year.

It's very cheap. Also make sure it includes the guns just to be sure. I didn't know until I asked that collectibles are insurable under a different policy. That autographed helmet, yeah not going to covered under regular renters.

Its for the first six months because that's the term of their policy.

My insurance went down by $40 dollars more after the 6 month point

I'm paying $40 with State Farm.

Drive a clunker like me and save much more than 15% on car insurance.

ETA: Said clunker is a 2000 Mustang so it looks and drives great. Not a jalopy.
