Don't bench your best running back to 'teach him a lesson about fumbling'. When you have a great player and you are in a heated battle, you don't bench the only running back you have on your team who can break a game open for you. Especially if he has never displayed a problem with fumbling and especially if he recovered his own fumble. All RB's will fumble the ball occasionally. LSU lost by 3 points. Does Jeremy Hill make a 3 point difference in a game, especially a game that your game plan appears to be to pound your opponent into submission? Miles is one of the top college football coaches in the country, but he fumbled the ball on this one. Hillard played great but he is not any where near the level of RB that Hill is. He is not going to break off a long run for you. He is not the game changer that Hill is. It is not a game that we should have just thrown away so casually.

I don't fully get Les's policy on this either. Seems like there's RB's and then everyone else.

I agree. Plus, if Mett doesn't go full retard on us and throw into double coverage 3 times we win this game comfortably....just sayin

All RB's fumble at some point, even Jim Brown. You going to bench him for half the game for that. It's not like he has fumbleitist. Exactly what lesson are you trying to teach him.

Miles' backs all know going in that if they drop the ball, they'll sit a spell. That's the rule. It doesn't change for anyone, anytime. I have no problem with that.

so you are trying to say that HIllard gives us a better chance of winning than HIll. I don't care what the stats were for that game. I've been watching Hill all season and I know what he can do with the ball in his hands. He is by far our most dangerous RB and it is not even close.

Hill is a better running back who provides a greater threat for the defense. He opens up play-action more. He is also far more likely to break a long run to change a game. When healthy, he should get at least 80% of the carries on this team.

So tell me what points you think were left on the board with Hill on the bench. I'm looking at the play-by-play recap and don't see where his absence on the field had anything to do with the loss. LSU only punted once in the 2nd Half. Here's that drive's plays:

1st and 10, LSU 25 - pass 13 yds to Landry
1st and 10, LSU 38 - pass 12 yds to Beckham
1st and 10, Midfield - pass 0 yds to Hill
2nd and 10, Midfield - pass incomplete to Boone
3rd and 10, Midfield - pass incomplete to Beckham
4th and 10, Midfield - punt

Ole Miss then fumbles and resultant drive ends in FG, but looks like this:

1st and 10, UM 13 - run 5 yds by Hill
2nd and 5, UM 8 - run 1 yd by Hill
3rd and 4, UM 7 - Mett sacked for 16 yd loss
4th and 20, UM 23 - Field Goal

Next drive ends in game tying TD. We know the rest (and had nothing to do with Hill). So what points did we lose out on?

well if it's a rule then it's a rule no matter how dumb a rule it is. Doesn't matter that we are trying to win a football game I guess. Guess we will just take the loss because we can't change a rule. Even if this particular back rarely ever fumbles we will still stick with our rule and lose the game because that's the important thing. Otherwise HIll won't give a dam whether he fumbles or not. If we don't have the rule he will probably won't even try to hang on to the ball.

HIll can take it to the house on any given play, Hillard can't.

that sums it up. That he opens up play action more is an important point that I wasn't even thinking about. Great point.

Not only did Hill have more carries than any other back, he carried the ball in every quarter. What a terrible premise for a terrible thread.

Look at the recap: LINK

Hill was still playing in the first half when we didn't score. In the second half we had 6 drives; scored TDs on 3, FG on 1, and 2 punts. Hill was in on all 6 drives.

Just because you say he has the talent to break it big, doesn't mean we left points out there in the second half. The points left out there in the first half were due to Mett throwing picks in the end zone.
