My son asked me about it last night and I was looking at it today. I really cannot see a big benefit to opening one of these. He's always looking for a way to increase his credit (he's almost 19) and I'm not sure this will help him in any way.

I've already added him to a couple of my credit cards and the little shite has a credit score higher than mine.

He already has a checking acct with debit card so he doesn't need a way to pay with plastic. I'm not sure this will help or hurt his score.

It's just a pre-loaded card. Some people have needs that fits that service.

Looks like they're just trying to enter the no frills ebanking market.

Ok. But it's not going to either raise or lower his credit score will it?

They also have Amex Bluebird.

Let's just say these services have some "creative" uses.

You said in the other thread you use Flyertalk and such, You should be able to figure it out!

But I use it to convert expenses I can't pay with credit cards to ones I can. I pay my rent and student loans with my CC now.

Not to hijack the thread but can you breakdown this process for me like I'm 8 years old? I have a similar situation as you with heavy student loan payments each month so I'd love to start at least earning cash back or points by paying them...

I'd check flytertalk and credit card points blogs. They break it down better than I can, but it revolves around buying "cash equivalents" with your CC, then moving the money off those instruments into things such as Amex Bluebird, and then pay your expenses using that.

The term "manufactured spend" is used as well. As in, some people just do the above in a circle, without ever purchasing tangible goods or services to get points. I don't really do that as of now.

Yeah I assumed that is what you were referring to. I have read that some are using Amazon payments for such things as well. I haven't actually done so yet. I wonder if I can pay my mortgage this way some how. I'll check in to that.

I tried to do this a while back.

But I couldn't set up an account.

Im stuck in limbo where they say the account name is now taken, but they say the account name doesn't exist if you try to click forgot password

And they locked me out basically.

I heard that the developers of that iteration were fired and were picked up by some Canadian company.....

Ya Payments works for 1k a month. If you have a buddy you trust to send money to, that will help. Sending it to your wife to and fro would probably get you noticed.

You can definitely pay your mortgage. You can run 5k through Bluebird a month.

I paid off the last 4k of my bar loan that Discover was servicing through Bluebird Bill Pay.
