The way these thread have been going, you'd think he doesn't even exist.

I like how people listed a bunch of players who were not ranked as highly

swift was 5 i think. Taz was 8, no others were top 10. Randolph, Bass, Martin and Big Baby were top 20 recruits, but Simmons may be top 4 when its all said and done

No, but JJ has cemented himself as one of the best recruiters in recent MBB history at LSU

I think they're responding to the Randolph post saying that Bass, Baby, etc were just as highly ranked. Simmons is clearly on a different level, I was wondering myself if we had gotten a top 10 consensus player between Shaq and Simmons.

eta: forgot about Livingston

Rankings change and vary depending on what site you look at, Taz was the #1 player in his class for years. Would he have been our biggest recruit ever if he would've committed his freshman or sophomore season like Simmons? I don't know where Simmons is going to end up rankings wise. Glen was top ten at one time and finished up around 10-15.

He was also named to the Parade All-American team and was the consensus No. 2 recruit in the nation.

Taz was 8

20th

Randolph, Bass, Martin and Big Baby were top 20 recruits

Bass = 11th

Davis = 13th

Randolph = 12th

Jarell Martin = 13th

Other big time recruits:

Regis Koundjia = 22nd

Magnum Rolle = 18th

And they have Simmons as the 6th best player

Simmons is definitely the highest rated since Swift, and I don't think people should be any less excited.

That said, it's not completely unheard of for LSU to get a top 30 player. We're a top 20 school for number of current NBA players.
