I managed to get the game installed yesterday on PC.

I ran BF3 on Ultra with no issues. After playing around with the settings for BF4, I find that there are some areas that just cause terrible frame rates. I've tried playing on Low/Medium/High/Ultra with similar effects.

I know the game is in Beta, but is anyone else having issues with frame rates in BF4 when their computer is more than capable at running it?

I have heard about low performance so far. Bruce will be along to drop some BF knowledge

Yep, Bruce and I have had several Skype convos about the shitty performance in BF4, especially in crossfire. We are both getting low GPU usage and high CPU usage, and Bruce is getting negative scaling in crossfire. Hoping that all gets sorted out at launch. This is supposed to be an AMD partnership after all.

What a disaster that would be since this game has been a big promotion for AMD

What gpu and CPU do you have?

Kind of a stupid question though. It seems as if the problems are ranging across a brands from low to high end. I read a guy on the battlelog forums say that he had to play on all low with his Titan and is only getting 30fps@1080p.

I put everything on ultra and pushed resolution scale to 200% last night. <50% gpu usage in crossfire with only 60% CPU usage. shite doesn't make any sense.

I turn crossfire off and turn everything on medium and have a constant of over 60fps. 60-70% gpu usage and 70-80% CPU.

Crossfire with those same setting is 35-40%. CPU 85-95%. Absolutely an unplayable stuttering mess. Highs in the 60s (fps) constant dips into the 20s

My performance only degrades periodically and is more attributable to server lag.

I only have a 460gtx (although planning on upgrading soon) but I have a haswell i7 proc which might help.

The game runs pretty damn smooth for me most of the time.

The I7 will help if the game is processor heavy but most are gpu heavy. i don't know about this one. I feel like whenever a game is not optimized well that means it is processor heavy

BF3 uses quite a bit of CPU and bf4 is using a ton. There guys on reddit with 3570ks that are having 100% usage, which is throttling them pretty bad. Right now it's just because its I optimized though but I would expect around 70-75% on release.

I wonder if this will be a trend for next generation now that they have all those cores. The I7 may start showing benefits over the i5 if that's the case because of hyperthreading. I could be way off though.

8-core APUs in the consoles will have 4 cores devoted to non-gaming stuff, right? If that's the case, I could see them being coded to optimize those four cores as much as possible. It could explain why quad-core folks without hyperthreading are getting high CPU usage. And since the AMD 8-core CPUs only have four modules, with two cores on each module sharing the same FPU, the benefit of 8-core is lost in games that use the CPU for physics/calculations (like what I suspect would be needed for all the players and 'splosions in a game like BF4).

And also, this beta is clearly terribly coded.

It will be interesting to see as time goes on. That is one reason I'm glad I am not upgrading now and get to wait a bit.

Yeah, maybe it will get better but I'll continue to be cautiously optimistic.
