Aaron Alexis (Navy Yard shooter) was black, wasn't he?

I only ask because an Op/Ed in this morning's Advocate would indicate otherwise.

quote:

Statistically, Aaron Alexis was surprisingly typical. In a study of mass shootings, the Congressional Research Service last year found that many of the perpetrators were white and male, averaging 33 1/2 years of age....

The advocate is a shite newspaper along with 99% of other local news agencies.

Don't be racist. Just because someone looks black and votes for obama doesn't mean he actually is black on the inside.

He is a bit of an anomaly, most mass shooters are white.

Most mass shooters of white people are white and are highlighted in the media. Most mass shooters of minorities are done by their own and usually not covered heavily by the media due to it being culturally accepted.

Name any community, anywhere, where mass killings of "your own" are "culturally accepted".

I think you may have just won the PoliBoard stupid contest.

Interestingly, that's NOT what the Op/Ed stated. It used the word "many," as opposed to "most" (or "majority"). Implicit in the choice of this word is that, in fact, "most" mass shooters are NOT white.

I read the column. It made no big deal one way or the other regarding race other than saying many were white. The shooter fit the profile of being male and in his thirties. And a history of mental illness.

The column was benign and a brief discussion of the incident.

The Poli Board sometimes reminds me of the OT.

Most of the population is white. Just because blacks don't engage in mass murder at the same rates they engage in other violent crimes (8 to 14 X the rate of the general population) doesn't mean this was an anomaly.

Some dolts also claim Blacks aren't serial killers.

As has been mentioned already, most killers shoot those of their own race. While historically most shooters may have been white (which would not be surprising because whites are the majority group), recent mass shootings are balancing out:

white= Colorado and Connecticut

minority= Fort Hood and DC Naval base.

1) Mass murder isn't culturally accepted anywhere.
2) Mass shooters tend to be young white males. It's not a media conspiracy.

Wasn't a mass murderer, just crappy shooters.
If every time some black kills more than one person in the commission of a felony it is a mass murder your theory would definitely be fricked up.

Only mass murderers I know of in NO are
Mark Essex -- Black
Robert Charles --Black

Sure Black kids are unlikely to be filled with angst in high school as they aren't that committe4d to the process and they are generally dropped out before they become extremely violent.

Blacks do there share of workplace killings, but they also don't participate in the work force at a very high level.

It also takes some thought to plan a mass murder and lacks the spontaneity blacks seem to enjoy.

Racist killings around the country by blacks aren't unknown

I was thinking shooters of many, not that they necessary achieved a kill.
