Sorry couldn't provide the link to Fortune, it's a pay site.

America’s vision of success is changing. Once upon a time, U.S. adults may have aspired to have a nuclear family, their name on a property, and maybe even a white picket fence.

Not anymore—at least, not for a growing number of millennial and Gen Z women who are prioritizing their careers and finances over having children.

New research from personal-finance experts Intuit Credit Karma found 45% of millennial women are not following the “traditional” societal timelines of getting married, buying a home, and having kids.

A further 41% of Gen Z women—those born from 1997 onwards—say they won’t follow this path, with 32% noting their goal is to have no children at all.

Instead, they want to be “DINKs”—having dual income with a partner but no children.

While jobs and careers form one major reason why women aren’t having children right now, another is financial situation and savings.

For the 35% of millennial women who told Credit Karma they didn’t want children, money was often a significant factor: 40% of that group said they couldn’t afford children, compared with 35% of Gen Zers planning to be DINKs.
On top of that, getting a plan in place to potentially have children in the future comes with a hefty price tag. Nearly one-third of the millennial women surveyed said that the eye-watering sums which come with fertility treatment, egg freezing, adoption, and surrogacy are what has kept them from family planning.

Apparently those in the bold group have never heard of sex with a male counterpart or are lesbians.

I'm SICK - Single Income Couple Kids

not following the “traditional” societal timelines

Traditional meaning married in their early 20's.
Today's women want to whore around until their mid-30's, then reconnect with the middle-school boyfriend when ready to settle down.

Clearly you didn't understand the general theme of the article

I'll give you a hint:

The OT: We hate people who have kids that they can’t financially support.

Also the OT: We hate people who won’t have kids because they aren’t financially stable enough.

couldn’t afford children,

People overstate what this truly costs. Until they are much older kids eat very little, clothing them can easily be made very cheap.

People simply don’t want to give up their 4 times a year vacations and new cars to have children. And that’s ok, but why act like you couldn’t cut back and afford it?

Not that simple. birth control has royally effed up so many women's bodies that they can't get pregnant later in life without spending a crap ton of money. Who would have thought giving hormones unnaturally would impact the endocrine system responsible for healthy hormone production?

I don't believe that this is something new. More women have been career focused for over twenty years now however they do have age restriction and an itchy internal clock if they want to have biologic children. Trying to find that balance with a career and family planning can be challenging.

Not everyone is meant to be a parent but I think all couples should try to have a couple years together without kids to go and do some fun things before the children arrive.
