he does make good points about what we gave up to get him...kinda makes you sick when you think about it...for a RB that splits carries?

to be fair, we needed a RB badly that year. We didn't have Sproles yet, Bush was on his way out, and PT & Ivory were both injured at the end of the year.

Now...did we really need to go and trade up for MI? Hind sight being 20/20...hell no.

But I still say we needed a RB from that draft.

I know this is not a popular response, but had we not given away that pick, Goodell would've taken it.

Better to spend it on something than not have it at all.

Right but do you think he only takes that one?

We would have had 3 more 2nd round picks and no Ingram in that time span. Maybe we punch it in against green bay, go 14-2, host and beat the 9ers and giants, WIN another Lombardi.

To be fair, we really didn't give up a 1st round draft pick for Mark Ingram.
I say this because Goodell would have 100% taken away our 2012 first rounder in the bounty punishment if we had one. He probably still would have taken the second rounder also.
He probably figured "The Saints have punished themselves drafting this piece of crap"

Now I would argue that I'd rather not have Ingram and have lost the 2012 first round pick also. Then we'd wouldn't be wasting money paying a sack of rat feces to fold like origami upon first contact on every one of our wasted plays handing him the ball.

Regardless of what Godell "may" have done, the Saints obviously missed with Ingram. And, yes, they did give up a 1 for him.

Again, hindsight and all, but I do remember SFP and others calling this a bad pick. I was defending it. I have to eat crow now. It was a bad use of that pick.

The Saints did not give up a first round pick. They spent a first round pick on him. We didn't lose a first rounder.

We began with two first round picks (one in '11, one in '12) and ended with two first round picks (two in '11). You can argue whether or not the pick is a bust, but we did not lose a first round pick.

Because there's no chance Goodell let's us keep that pick if we had it.

Even if Goodell let's us keep the pick, we weren't less any first round picks. We still netted the same number of first round picks.

We would have had 1 first round pick in 2011 and 1 in 2012.
Instead, we trade up.
We had 2 first round picks in 2011 and 0 in 2012.
Net picks=2

If you go back in time and do not make the Ingram trade, we end up with
1 first round pick in 2011, and 0 in 2012 (taken by Goodell)
Net picks=1

So in theory, we did not give up a first round pick for him. We actually got Mark Ingram for free (talking draft picks)

Basically they got a 1 a year early and only gave up Shave Vereen to do it.

I'm trying to look at the glass half full.

I'm surprised Ingram hasn't been discussed more often.

I wanted to draft Rashard Jennings in the 3 rd round. (blues can back that up)

He's averaged 4.1 yards per carry with 7 TDs over the last 4 years. Move over Loomis, I got this!
