We would have had 3 more 2nd round picks and no Ingram in that time span. Maybe we punch it in against green bay, go 14-2, host and beat the 9ers and giants, WIN another Lombardi.

I know this would have happened.

FWIW the RBs drafted after Ingram aren't exactly a who's who of star NFL players. DeMarco Murray and Stevan "Fumble Machine" Ridley are the only two that somewhat jump out. Maybe Jaquizz Rodgers and Kendall Hunter after that. All of that kinda goes out the window knowing that we TRADED UP for Ingram though.

Then we'd wouldn't be wasting money paying a sack of rat feces to fold like origami upon first contact on every one of our wasted plays handing him the ball.

Watching Ingram in the back field reminds me of Canadian football ... We have just 2 downs to make a 1st or punt!....

For a staff that has had success with free agent RBs, I was stunned they would trade up into the 1st to take him. It was a bonehead move even at the time. RBs just are not that valuable to waste so much on one.

Yup
It's like someone saying
"Pick a number between 1 and 3, you get 3 guesses."
Then Ingram says 4 with your first guess.

to be fair, we needed a RB badly that year. We didn't have Sproles yet, Bush was on his way out, and PT & Ivory were both injured at the end of the year.

Now...did we really need to go and trade up for MI? Hind sight being 20/20...hell no.

But I still say we needed a RB from that draft.
Amen.

I understand what you are saying, but I recall quite few of us saying that it was a bad pick. Could have drafted Ridley in the 3rd. It has nothing to do with Ingram being a roll tide jerk and Ridley being a tiger. It's about value; Ridley is the same type of back(only better) and could have been had for much better value.

And, yes, they did give up a 1 for him

Actually, they used a 1 and a 2 to draft him. So it boils down to was MI worth a 1st and 2nd round pick? Hindsight says no; however, at the time most of us not named chad thought it was a good move.

Could it be the style of play is the reason y'all think Ingram is a bust? I'm not sure, but I think in the 15+ yrs Sean Payton has had control of NFL offenses he hasn't produced a 1,000 yard rusher more than 4-5 times. Which to everyone's point, why did Loomis draft Ingram in the first place, if he was never going to be used properly.

ingram would have been given that chance had he been successful with his development. From day 1 they were trying to anoint him as the starter and lead back.

The guy's got corners that are 25-30 lbs lighter than he is standing him up at the goal line.

It's not the scheme. Dude's just not an NFL running back.

Disappointing, too. I was excited about the pick at the time.

The heartburn isn't that we traded up to the 1st round.
It's who we picked that sucks.
