Former LSU athletic director Skip Bertman, who hired Miles from Oklahoma State after Coach Nick Saban left LSU after the 2004 season, was shocked by the story.

“It stunned me,” Bertman said Tuesday afternoon. “We checked Les with every background check there is off the field as well as with the NCAA and with the Oklahoma State athletic department. You can find out if a coach was ever just looked at for even a secondary violation, and he had a clean slate. I worked with Les for five years, and the guy is very, very anti anything close to a recruiting violation or drugs or cheating. He’s always been a good recruiter.”

“Les always worked very well and very closely with our NCAA compliance department,” Bertman said. “I’m confident that when Les was coach at Oklahoma State that if Oklahoma State did anything against the rules, it was without his knowledge.”

If I had not canceled my SI subscription last year after their hit piece on Mathieu, I would cancel it now.

I might subscribe to it just so I can write them and cancel again.

I blew up the douche bag from SI's twitter after the honey badger story. This one is along those same lines. The few former disgruntled players that are actually alive are the only sources of this story. Shady mofos.

Bama must be scared to dispatch the REC hit squad. Hiring Cameron really got their employees digging stuff up.

Go to a newsstand or bookstore and find a copy of SI. Look inside until you find one or more of those blow in subscription crads. The more the better. Write "cancel my subscription" and why. Drop them in the mail slot at the post office. It drives them crazy. They have to pay the return postage.

He hath given birth to his only previously forgotten SEC QB. He can't be THAT shady.

He is relatively clean, especially when considering other program ethics.

If any of the things they say happened at Okie State are true, they did it because they had to keep up with what Oklahoma was doing.

Clean must first be defined. If you mean according to NCAA regulations, the answer is an unqualified no. Every cartel under the sun begins or at least devolves to a corrupt, self-serving organization. To be sure, the NCAA is a cartel. As proof I offer the so-called "death penalty" meted out to SMU for illegal booster contributions in the 1980s. This punishment has never been visited upon another school since because it destroyed the very revenue that the parasitic NCAA sucks from the corpus of many bastions of higher education, like LSU. How else can one explain the chastisements given to Baylor and Penn State which organizations committed much, much worse transgressions resulting in existential harm to one or more human beings? The NCAA is a joke.
