Explain the cons of ACA

Will someone break this down for a political newb? Are we looking at premiums increasing? Less time with Dr's? I would appreciate if someone took 5 minutes to explain this.

re: Explain the cons of ACA

people who currently pay for health insurance are going to pay more to subsidize those who fall in between qualifying for medicaid and being able to afford health insurance on their own.

The original bill is 906 pages. Narrow it down for me.

In most states, yes. In some very liberal states, such as New York, health care was already under so much government regulation that the ACA actually decreases gov't involvement, so premiums will fall there.

Possibly. You can't add 30 million people to the insurance rolls, not increase the supply of doctors, and expect your office care experience to be the same.

Honestly, this law will only be around for a few years. We'll have single payer after that. Then it'll be like the DMV.

re: Explain the cons of ACA

Here's the slant.

first fed gov declares that here can't be lifetime caps or turned down people due to pre existing conditions.

it further goes on that the minimum coverage goes up.

this is a toxic combination designed to explode the cost of premiums because you are mandating expensive no cap packages.

further it requires businesses to provide health care to "full time" employees (30hrs/wk).

or pay a "non tax penalty".

thus businesses can't afford that new expense so hours available for work is going down and premiums are skyrocketing as employers are paying out the arse either way.

1. The government will get more into the business of health care.
2. Well, there really doesn't even need to be a #2.

check.

eventually.

The government turned itself into a big insurance company. It will drive private insurance companies out of business(intended) so people will be left with no alternative to single-payer or universal health care. It's designed to get employers to dump their employees into the state exchanges and pay a fee(tax), as it's cheaper to do that than to pay for a policy.

Those that made the law know that premiums will increase, and have given exemptions to themselves and large companies until after the 2014 election. They have even "postponed" parts of the law until after 2014 so as to not hurt re-election.

The government has made itself into a middle man, and within "15-20 years"(Obama's own words) they will force out the competition and be the sole supplier of health insurance. They will decide who pays what, and who gets treated for what.

The problem with health care costs is the fact that there's a middle man or two between you and your doctor. Somebody else pays the bill, so naturally people don't care what an MRI costs. If there was a direct cost relationship, costs would come way down. People could get a catastrophic policy, and handle everything else out of pocket. At the very minimum, people should be able to purchase insurance from out of state companies.

On another note, the IRS has been targeting people for their political views. What power will they have when they control health care enforcement as well?

Has it been mentioned that it's unsustainable?

So here's the domino effect: the government will eventually become single payer for healthcare. And they will also determine how much to pay physicians for their services. So when they start to decrease payment, the best and brightest will no longer pursue careers in medicine. Less interest means having to lower the standards for entry into medical professions, and leads to less qualified physicians, and worse healthcare all around.

Think of your healthcare becoming like the public school system. Some will be decent, most will be terrible. Everything's a bureaucracy and nothing's efficient because they're not working to maximize profits.

Those who have always been responsible and had set their health care as a priority will pay more. Those who have never paid for shite will continue to pay the same!

In a nut shell.

Oh and the business community just loves it!

re: Explain the cons of ACA

Hope you noticed the common (and correct) thread in the responses? This is a liberal (i.e. Democrat) ploy to move to socialized medicine (i.e. death panels)... and unfortunately it will work. Here's how:

1) 30 million uninsured will enter the market, same or fewer doctors and no new health facilities.
2) The most sickly will go to the state/ Federal healthcare exchanges, the healthiest will pay the ridiculously minimal penalty which does not cover the cost of all the new critically ill cases.
3) The only possible response from the insurance companies is to raise premiums (which have already risen over 80% in the last 5 years).
4) The only response to that premium increase is for companies to drive employees to the state/Federal exchanges by making their own plans unaffordable or by cutting full-timers to part timers.
5) Over 10 years or so, socialized medicine will be the norm... again, no new doctors or medical facilities... thus healthcare will be rationed... thus death panels
6) Add to this the fact that the same President who has signed over 195 executive orders will not provide an exemption to Catholic and other faith-based institutions on the HHS mandate... thus forcing these facilities to close...
7) ... and the Democrats have just taken control of your entire life:
- Retirement (Social Security)
- Healthcare (Obamacare)
- Food (historic rises in Food Stamps)
- Security (gun legislation)

If you literally want to eat or survive any type of medical situation, you'd better damn well vote for the Democrat party.

This isn't America anymore, Comrade.

Here's the biggest. The government can now require you to buy a private product.

Isn't if funny that the people who hate capitalism support a law that effectively makes one a slave to health care companies?
