This is the most truthful statement I have read on here in a long time.

I really want to know what is so difficult about his defense. Not saying it isnt difficult but what aspect of it is so hard to grasp

Supposedly I heard that players had too many checks per play. Think of it as a majority of the defense having something equivalent to option routes based on what they see. They didn't have definitive assignments basically.

I think that I read an article about it a little over a year ago. I think it has something to do with stunts that the d lineman do to disguise where exactly the rush is coming from. I'm not entirely sure though.

Jesus, if one guy sees one thing and another something different (quite easy when you're looking from a different perspective), its easy to see why we allowed so many big plays last year

Right if you give everyone checks not everyone will be on the same page. I'm sure it was mostly the secondary with checks, as well as some for the LBs, but you're talking about maybe half the defense possibly not being on the same page and it definitely looked that way at times and you could see guys discussing it between plays.

Whereas when you do it on offense it's between the QB and WR. Even if more than one WR has an option, it's still one read at a time between 2 players.

Where it does get messy on offense is the checks on the line for blitzes and stunts because that's 5-7 guys trying to make that work but those are pre-snap adjustments and not real time like option routes or what Spags does on D.

Nah that's the easy part as that is pre-snap and you don't have to adjust after the fact.

The checks are for passing plays mostly in the secondary.

You have to let players play. Not think about what they are doing.

So glad
no more
Spags.

Y'know, while I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it that way... if Hicks came through LSU as expected, he's probably picked somewhere in the mid-1st round. And then, no, we wouldn't get him.

Hicks will develop into a monster within a couple of years.
