Ive read online that there is a lot of osage or bowdoc wood in east Tejas and sw Arkansaw.

Was hoping some of my fellow OBers might have some in their home range and would be willing to cut and ship me 4-5 3-4" limbs aprox 5'-6' in length.

I will pay all cost plus will make a bow and ship back to you if interested.

My plan is to make my own bow and arrows with flint arrowheads and use it to hunt next year.

you could probably find some closer to you. they'll grow damn near anywhere.

you can also plant cuttings and they will grow. people used to make fence posts out of them and much to their surprise, trees shot up

While hog hunting in east Texas, found some Bodoc and made a fine bed of coals to cook over. Landowner walked up and wanted to know why I was burnin his fence posts.

hard to find good pieces of bois d'arc for making a bow. finding some that are straight and long enough seems to be an issue

good luck

You may have more luck buying a bolt of Bodarc from an online archery supply store. Not all pieces are created equal and it may take somebody who knows what they're looking for to select the right piece(s). I had an older friend that was part Indian that used to make bows and other primitive weapons and he was very selective when it came to choosing the right piece of wood. He said he had to "see" the bow in the tree before cutting the limb.

theres not any here in fl. so they say. the closest to me is in N Ga. So I would rather find someone I can buy some from or do some bartering
for.

I do plan on planting some but dont want to wait years before can harvest.

You can buy a stave on Ebay for about $50.00.
Probably a better piece of wood.

You were the one I was thinking might could help

I would like 5-6 pcs around 6'L 2"dia straight as can get.

The reason I want raw pcs is to do it all myself.
Dont want to buy something someone has already dried or split.

So needs to be cut from the tree live? Do you need me to do anything special with it after cutting? How should I ship it? Ok, I will be out on the lease this weekend and can take a look. We have a ton of it growing around here. Hell we have a town 6 miles south named Bois d' Arc.

no it doesnt. its prob better if it has laid around and naturally cured. But wiil take whatever can get.

I will do some checking to see what the best way to ship will be.

You can look at the pieces and tell what would make a good longbow. a curve in one direction is fine. just needs to look pretty straight on one plane.

Thanks BP

Through the "black belt" central Alabama, we have a ton of Osage or what we call mock orange. Very hard wood and will eat a chain saw blade for lunch. They do make a fine bow.
