Maybe to control the console, but to control things in games it's going to take some development.

Also to make a game built around the motion controls is going to take development, and a lot fewer developers are going to do it for the Eye because only a small percentage of people will own it. Sony isn't giving it a real chance to succeed.

But you know that. You're just being stubborn.

Right, you say pause game, the game pauses and brings up the XMB which you can further navigate with your voice such as launching browser, starting party chat, etc.

Lol, no one wants a game built around motion controls so irrelevant there. Motion gaming has no future.

I would rather Sony do the right thing like they are. They are offering consumers an accessory for some facial recognition features and voice commands, while offering a small selection of motion controlled games.

Exactly what the people want, especially hardcore gamers that give don't give two shits about motion gaming.

No one is ever going to play or want to play CoD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, etc, with motion controls. Just how it is, people will always want a standard controller or keyboard on PC.

You realize that "hardcore" gamers are only a small piece of the market right?

And we don't know that motion gaming has no future. Well we know it doesn't for Sony because they have guaranteed it's failure on their console.

Quite the opposite really, in terms of gamers in general in connection with motion gaming.

Saving the $100 is far more important.

People on the fence about which console are going to go "Why is this one $100 cheaper?" "Because it doesn't come with the Kinect/Eye toy." "Oh, well what does that do?" "Facial recognition and some voice commands" "Oh, no thanks, rather save the $100 and just play games".

That's your casual consumer walking into walmart to buy a system with a friend not knowing much about either console.

You can fight it and argue it all you want, but motion gaming does not have a future on console, and sure as frick not on PC.

If motion gaming was something gamers actually wanted it wouldn't have been a shitshow on current gen that didn't sell for shite, and it would have numerous products from companies for PC's.

I would love to go to some huge PC gaming board and create a poll "Do you want a Kinect or Eye for PC?" Would be a complete shite show and you know it.

You're buying an Eye/Kinect for the voice commands more than anything else by a mile, and to a hardcore gamer, or casual gamer, is that worth an additional $100? 80% would say no.

The Wii is purely popular because it doesn't require you to know a ton of buttons.

These systems are marketed to the mass public, not gamers. Casual players don't want to have to read a manual and have a whole thing explained to them before the game starts.

And ensuring that everyone has a product in their home makes development for the product worthwhile.

If 100% of a client base has something to use, then people catering to that base will find ways to implement and improve it.

If 10% of a client base owns the product and 90% do not, there is zero incentive to devote time to it.

Hence, the Kinect will be developed and catered to. The eye will fall by the wayside, like the kinect for the 360. (This doesn't mean the new kinect will be a success. Just in strictly business terms, the eye has zero chance.)

The Wii was popular with little kids and old people as an arcade system. No one owned a Wii for Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. The biggest games in the industry, their sales for the Wii were next to zero. Why? Because no one wants to play using motion controls on those games. That is why it has no future, on console or PC.

Correct, which is why $100 cheaper has the PS4 ahead 2:1 in preorder sales alone. People and mass consumers don't give a shite about a Kinect for voice commands and some motion control, they'd rather save the $100 and if they want that down the road then have that option and could get one used at a Gamestop or eBay for $30ish.

You don't have to have it connected to the Xbone at all times. You only need it if certain games or programs require it. It's an accessory.

It doesn't matter what the install base is. It's up to MS to come up with relevant content for the Kinect. Just as it's up to Sony to come up with relevant content for the PS Eye. If either company does that then people will invest in their product. Third parties aren't going to care either way. They don't have an incentive to do anything more than gimmicky stuff.

Being connected isn't the requirement, the fact that every single Xbox One comes with a kinect is what matters.

They will care when they have assurances that every Xbox One has a kinect, therefore they don't have to draw down on features because half of customers didn't have the device ala Kinect/Eye 1.0

And boom. Wonder why half the customers (was more than that even) didn't have it or want it? Hmm.

Over half your customer base didn't want, add some gimmicky extras to it, and force it down your throat for more money. Brilliant again.

It sold well as a peripheral, but that is all Kinect v1 really was or could be and since it would never be adopted widely the applications were minimal. That will be a different story with 2.0, I'm interested to see how they use it now that every Xbox One has it.

Naw, we get way cooler shite than you console poors get. Oh and they were crowd funded...must mean there's a demand for them.
Oculous Rift + Omni

I wouldn't buy that stuff but there's a market for it on PC.
I agree about the motion control shite BTW.

So Nintendo should have made the Wii-motes optional? Seemed to work out OK for them.

People complained so much that they were forced to make the Controller Pad Pro. Was a very popular add-on.

He thinks that 60% of game sales come from preorders. He probably doesn't understand that.

And until I get my hands on the PS eye, I don't trust that Sony has built a facial recognition and voice command system that is close to being on par with the Kinect
