Sony has confirmed that its forthcoming PS4 console will support voice commands via the optional Eye camera peripheral.

Speaking to gaming site Polygon a Sony spokesperson said: "Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4.”

Consoles continue to get more and more identical.

No one wants it.

Who cares, right?

Too bad Sony isn't including it, thus guaranteeing it's failure.

Too bad? It's the smart move.

Do not force products down your potential consumers throats, pretty standard business.

We humans have choices and liberties!

So Nintendo should have made the Wii-motes optional? Seemed to work out OK for them.

I hope you are joking with that comparison. Dear lord almighty.

The Kinect is now a part of the Xbox One. It is like the Wii mote for the Wii or the tablet for Wii U.

I still don't understand why this concept is is difficult concept to grasp.

In an attempt to beat MS on a price point PS has eliminated the possibility of the move being successful and creating any possible uses any hardcore gamers would actually enjoy. Is the Kinect going to be successful at this? Who knows, but the opportunity is much greater when developers know everyone they are making their game for has one in their house.

The Wii Mote is a controller isn't it? Something that has shipped with every console ever made in history? I have a Wii U and the tablet is not required to play games or operate the console, so again, how is that comparable?

Micro$oft gave a big frick YOU to the 90% of the gamers that don't give two shits about motion gaming, added some face recognition stupid shite, and some voice commands and forced you to buy.

They laugh at you like little sheep.

Sony did the right thing in allowing humans to have a choice in what they buy. A Kinect or Eye is an accessory, if you want motion gaming or those other gimmicky features, you can purchase it anywhere for $59.99 or whatever it is like last generation instead of having it shoved down your throat without a choice.

"Hey guys we invented this new product, it's not very popular at all, so in our next product we are going to raise the price the amount of said product and force you to buy it if you want the main product."

Brilliant.

I think both sides of this argument are being over exaggerated....

It isn't an accessory, it is a part of the Xbox one.

So Sony invested a decent amount of money into the Eye for nothing?

That sounds like a sound business strategy.

And Sony has put out a product/accessory and guaranteed its failure due to their console user base being fragmented. They made it so they can put a check mark on that feature box. Nothing more.

Brilliant.

It wasn't for the 360 right? It's an accessory? They then took the same thing, added some voice commands and are now forcing you to buy an accessory to use the main product.

Huh? People that want voice commands and facial recognition will purchase it.

For gaming? No hardcore gamer wants motion gaming at all. Why do you think the Kinect and Eye current gen were failures? No one wants that shite, leave that to Nintendo.

What hardcore gamer games on a Wii? Lol, none. And it wasn't because of the graphics. Why is the Wii U failing miserably? Again, motion gaming has no future.

Just the facts.

Is there a Kinect or PS Eye for PC? No? Well how come? It's such a huge part of gaming that the "master race" doesn't want anythign to do with that stupid shite? Shocker.

Don't kid yourselves and make excuses for a product being forced down your throat like a little sheep.

How so? Facial recognition and voice commands are pretty standard.

Or do you mean motion gaming? See above post.

They have guaranteed it's failure because there will be minimal development for it thanks to Sony fragmenting it's user base. Not that hard to understand.

Again, there is no development needed for facial recognition and voice commands, it's built into the system universally.

So devs don't have to do anything at all to include functionality in their games? bullshite. C'mon man, you're not stupid.

For voice commands and facial recognition? No, it's built into the OS.
