Allowable Rifles for Deer Hunting in Louisiana

Can you legally hunt deer in Louisiana with an AR15(.223)with a 30round magazine?
Thanks.
ETA: THis is a serious question. I'm pretty sure it is legal to hunt deer with a .223, I just could not find a regulation regarding if a 30 round magazine was legal.
Thanks.

Yes. You can hunt deer with 223. I'm almost certain any centerfire cartridge is allowable. However, I think a 223 is a little small and anemic for deer hunting, but that's just me.
I'm pretty sure the 30 rounder is legal to hunt with as well. I've had my AR in the woods with my magazine in before during hunting season so if it's illegal it's news to me.
I'm sure someone will chime in with more knowledge on this subject.

I thought this as well. But I could be wrong.

The way I read it is that .223 is legal and did not see any restrictions on the amount of rounds. But was hoping someone else could definitivly back my assumptions that an ar15(.223) w/30 round magazine was legal.

I am not saying it's legal, but it sure seems to be omitted in the regs. I suppose I could have looked in the wrong place, but the logical place to put that is in the section with minimum caliber.

Why are you trying to cut loose 30 rounds while deer hunting?
Posted on 8/29/13 at 2:43 pm to ThatsAFactJack
Just be safe and pony up for a five round mag.

I have not found anything in the regulations that limits the magazine size. It does not state one way or the other. Just trying to get clarification.

There is no limit to number of rounds in a rifle in LA
ETA: this was straight from a game warden.

This question seems to come up every year. There is no regulation on the number of rounds your rifle can hold during deer season. The only round reg. I know of is shotgun and that's from the FED'S. Some times I wish there were. I was hunting in Pine Grove years back when a fella and two young sons(all had Ak's) unloaded their mag's on a deer running across a logging road. I literally hit the ground, deer kept going, once I got back to my truck I did too.

I dont need more then 2 rounds, but I am a cheap SOB and dont want to have to buy a 5 round mag. Thanks to the OB for clearing up what I already thought.
