The NFL made $9billion last year.

Might want to go back to finance class and learn the difference between revenue and net income/profit/cash flow/whatever you'd metric you'd like to choose here.

The timing of the settlement by the NFL is genius. College football smokescreen.

Better than solid - it's unbelievable. Some numbers for perspective....

We are talking like 25m per team spread over 20 years. That 1m per team per year is less than 1% of the cap today. In 20 years it will be pennies if projections hold true.

Drew got what, 40m to sign?

If they dumped 100% of the cost on season ticket holders it would be about $1.50 per home game over that stretch

4,900 players for $765M. Was that really worth $150k before attorney fees?

Attorneys aren't getting 1/3.

Money isn't being split evenly buuuuut all retired NFL players are eligible to apply for the money.

NFL has admitted no guilt, this is FAR from over. This was a money grab, the true suit where they take this to trial will be the big one.

If they let even one case be left up to a Judge, the NFL would be fricked.

i don't think so

plus there will be opt-outs and this will occur likely

i haven't read the class definition, but the only people who get to take this to trial will be those who opt out of the class settlement. there likely won't be that many who do this, and that minority is going to get BURIED with a 50/50 shot at best of winning at trial

Well from what I understand the NCAA is more at fault than the NFL for mental illness. Some college did a study on this...I believe it was Purdue?...that showed conclusive evidence that any player sustaining more than 700 blows to the head in a college season would likely sustain permanent brain damage. IMO until the NCAA starts limiting contact practices, unfortunately this trend will continue. This even trickles down to the HS level.

The NFL has at least taken measures in the interest of the safety of the players...I believe they are only allowed 1 contact practice per week?? Sure, there are rules now at all levels about helmet-to-helmet contact and leaving your feet during a hit, but many players with mental problems as they get older are linemen that sustain blows to the head on every play. Kids are bigger, stronger and faster than they ever were. Sure, we are more aware and cautious regarding concussions, and equipment technology is much more advanced than in years past, but I don't see an easy solution to the problem.

Uhhhh. Did you miss the BS propaganda Goodell has been spewing for the past year? The NFL was scared shitless and definitely did not want this issue in the hands of any Judge.

This reminds me of how the Catholic church always settles so that the law cannot be changed in the U.S.
