No gap at all, what was a gap to Jesse was how it went missing..he had obviously thought of it and was right when he asked if sauls man lifted it from him when confronting Walt in his living room.

He probably really just wanted to believe Walter. Walter used the child who was killed on the playground, Thomas, to his advantage after seeing how much it shook Jesse.

Jesse's pot was lifted the exact same way as the ricin. Saul works for Walt. Jesse isnt the idiot he once was. He knows Walt needed him to get Fring. He also knows walt makes poisons from beans and flowers.

It's not about confusion. It's a big stretch. They wanted to move the story forward, but it could've been a better connection. In the 3 seconds Jesse was twitching around searching for his weed, he didn't figure out the meaning of life

We all understand Jesse just realized Huell pick-pocketed him twice. The kid didn't get poisoned with ricin though. It doesn't change anything about Brock, yet he was in Saul's office screaming about the ricin cig and poisoning Brock. It's a pretty far stretch is all. Not as "definitive" as some are making it out to be.

People are confused because the writers dropped the ball on this one. Jesse's actions aren't based on what he knows as fact or from the facts that have been shown to the viewer. We're left to wonder how he added 1 + 2 and came up with 4.

The poisoned cigarette McGuffin is a bit silly considering that it's all taking place in a world where the characters are shooting, running over, and blowing up people. There's more ricin in the world and Walt knows how to get it. No reason for this magic cigarette to hold so much importance.

yes, it is. did you forget how the ricin cig (after jesse ransacked his house already looking for it) only magically reappeared after walt was there?

jesse is SMART. magnets, train robbery (without anyone knowing it) and keeping his mouth shut to hank BOTH times were all due to that, nobody helped him.

first walt whistling after the murder of the kid in the desert, KNOWING walt flat out lied about mike, knowing he's being manipulated AGAIN by walt to leave town..it was a very short hop after huel did the switch AGAIN to go after saul.

saul cowering and admitting about the switch was the final proof he needed.

Posted in the Theories Thread, but Sepinwall is pretty thorough with the timeline and how Jesse could have made the connection.

You may not buy it, but it seems plausible to me.

It took me a while to come to grips with Jesse putting the pieces together after reading up on the the Brock poisoning incident.

Jesse suspected Walt because the cig went missing and accuses him of poisoning Brock. Walt was able to manipulate Jesse because of the missing cig. Jesse falls completely for it especially after Walt "dicovers" the missing cig in the vacuum thing. So Jesse's instincts are that Walt was the person behind all of it, but he allows himself to fall for Walt's trick.

Fast forward to this episode. Jesse suspects Walt of killing Mike, accuses Walt of killing him, accuses Walt of wanting to get rid of Jesse only for his own benefit. His instincts are right on again, but he allows himself to fall for Walt's tricks again because of a hug.

Jesse discovers how the weed and cig were lifted by Huel and realizes his instincts were right about Walt all along. He doesn't know how Brock was poisoned, but he now knows his initial suspicion were on point about Walt controlling that whole situation.

yep. and add to that the WHISTLING scene...go back & watch the horror on jesse's face again..and jesse realizing at that moment walt doesn't give a frick about innocent children.

his doubts over brock/walt started to grow there imo.

When he goes to Walt's house after leaving the hospital and accuses him, his first story is asking if heull lifted it off him. He ALWAYS had that suspicion. If people paid closer attention they'd understand this.

but it does. because it put the blame for brock's illness on either

a) jesse pinkman's negligence

or

b) gustavo fricking fring

Yep. Once he found out that Brock wasn't poisoned by ricin, Walt's story took a hit. Why would Fring have the cigarette stolen and then use a different form of poison on Brock?

correct. i think people are getting confused in that jesse *THOUGHT* walt took the ricin cig vs his misplacing it and brock being posioned due to his negligence.

let that sink in for a second.

jesse was lead to believe HE lost the ricin cig and brock got sick because of it..but when he couldn't find it that didn't add up to him.

suddenly it reappeared when walt showed up?

Yep. Which means Jesse realizes Walt was responsible for the missing cig and also leading him to think it was Fring and eventually he lost it in his house.

From there Jesse could only come to 2 conclusions:

a) Brock being poisoned was a complete coincidence and Walt used that opportunity to steal the ricin and manipulate Jesse

or

b.) Walt was responsible for all of it

b is definitely more of a logical conclusion than a.

NO

If the viewer thinks its a "stretch" for Pinkman to figure this out after Huell lifts his weed, they havnt been paying close enough attention.

Between the confession, and Jesse finally confronting Walt about his manipulation, and realizing the truth about his former mentor, this is probably the best single script ever written for a TV show.

I pity those of you who missed the impact of this earth-shattering episode because you were busy going "wait a minute - it was LILY OF THE VALLEY NOT RICIN?!?!?"

Please. Keep up. It's only the best written show EVER.

Well Walt knew Lilly of the valley was common, kids may get into it. He wasn't going to use ricin because he probably didn't want to kill the kid. He knew the cha ces of air oval were better with Lilly of the valley. But...if he died then that would be summed up as collateral damage.

He played on someone Jesse was close to, someone who was ok with killing kids to get a job done. Walt knew he had a day or two at the most to kill Gus. And he did..

With the poison he used the kid recovered an d it all looked like he just got into some local plant berries. Common for kids to do apparently.

So Walt's arse was covered, then he brings the fake ricin cigarette over and gives Jesse peace at mind. Was all good, perfect manipulation until Saul screwed up + spilled the beans.

Just the fact that so many loyal viewers were confused by this tells me that the writers didn't do their jobs (unless their intent was to confuse the viewers).

So you want everyone to pay close attention, but not so close that they see the plot holes? When it's a near perfect show, the imperfections will stand out. Get used to it.

just because walt is damn crafty and the whole ricin/brock/gus/jesse manipulation was complicated and many people didn't understand it doesn't mean the writers didnt do their job.

it was vintage walt. you'd expect someone with a mind like his to craft something that ingenius.

i guess the 'shoot gaul or i die' was easier for people to digest

There are no holes.

You are inventing them because you missed the point and want to feel better about that.

I think this is a huge point as well. Not only is he pissed because he figured out Walt poisoned Brock, but on top of that he manipulated Jesse into thinking it was his own fault that it happened
