Also do you see any surprise cuts this early or not until the second round of cuts?

I saw the date last week, but I can't remember where.

As you can tell from the thread I started, I hope Smith is cut. I just don't know you go into the season with him on the 53. His body just can't do it anymore.

I just looked over the roster again, and I'm not sure if there is another potential surprise cut. The closet one I can think of is Hawthorne. He's just hasn't looked very good since he got here, but we gave him a nice contract and restructured it this past offseason.

didn't he have a hip flexor or something last year? I know he only played in 10 games.

that could be part of the reason. But I kind of agree as it pertains to this season so far. Haven't really heard his name mentioned all that much.

Personally don't think the bigger names like smith, hawthorne, harper, etc. will get cut until the final roster is made. Sad because even though hawthorne is decent, the other two are pretty horrible and getting paid a ton of money to be just horrible/mediocre.

They will if the staff thinks they have a chance catching on somewhere else. But I'd be surprised if it happens.

I just don't see Hawthorne being cut imo. He is still fairly young, showed great play in Seattle, not much depth at ILB, and I don't believe we save much of anything cutting him.

Yeah I was talking more about Smith than anything.

I don't think it'll be hawthorne at least for this year. The only person I think that will legitimately have a chance of getting cut is will smith.

Harper although not the greatest cover safety ever wouldn't be bad as a rover/OLB which I think they might start using him there more often or at a permanent position if vaccaro ends up playing a lot of snaps from day 1. Harper is very efficient at rushing the passer as we all know, average at covering TE's/RB's and after watching will smith being the black shanle, I think harper's move to OLB would be a great idea and cutting ties with smith is our best bet. Either that or shoving him at 3-4DE as a backup to hicks.

Harper is on this team another year, then probably cut if he doesn't agree to a restructure. Smith is gone. Has to be. I don't know how the coaches could, in good conscience, kick someone else off the roster in favor of him.
