Par Boiling Wings?

So I was browsing some chicken wing recipes and this one guy claims that if you par boil the wings it will render some of the fat out and give you a crispier skin once you finish in the oven.
It sounds gross but could there be some method to the madness?

I've tried it, it isn't good.

If I'm broiling wings, I like to steam them first.

That's what Alton says to do. That works well.

I marinate them, drop in hot grease.....fry til crispy, toss with Franks and butter....dip in homemade blue cheese dressing. I can't imagine it being any better.

it will render some fat out. depends on how long you boil it. you will also lose flavor, as evidenced by tasting the leftover chicken broth/fat, and smelling the flavor in the air boiling off. not sure it's worth it. "par"-smoking them, however, is very nice

Saw Alton Brown steam some before baking. But I'm always in if it involves boiling meats!

I don't boil wings, only ribeyes and tenderloins 'round here.

Works well if your are trying to make them healthier by not frying. I boil for about 5-7min and then bake.

Steaming them does kick arse.

I had a bit of a ghetto-rigged set up trying to accomplish it, but i definitely noticed a difference.

REALLY good with fried chicken as well, and cuts frying time.

Should I parboil them in Dr Pepper?

Best way to cook them.
Boil 15 mins
Broil in oven 15 mins.
Toss in the sauce.
Best you'll ever eat.
