which is Northwest Arkansas. There are no fresh shrimp or fresh fish outlets here and was wondering about the best resources to acquire them. I'm from NELA originally, Oak Grove area, and was needing info. about some local fisherman to buy some fresh shrimp. TIA!

I guess go down to the coast and strike up a conversation with a shrimper you see on a boat that is docked, or go down to one of the many docks and get info from there.
After the oil spill I doubt you will be able to run an under the table shrimp brokering business, of course if you do it legit that brings its own set of challenges.

What areas would be best to search? Terrebone, LaFourche, Delcambre, Cameron? Any help is appreciated!

For this venture you will need a truck capable of hauling shrimp and more importantly ice and have the ability to make that journey and keep your ice. And do it and not burn all your profits up in fuel.

Next you need to have enough customers to make it worthwhile.

Next you need a supplier. You will just have to work the docks to find that and you may not use the same one on every trip. Also, keep your options open for shrimp from MS, AL, and from LA.

Thank you for the advice. I have already acquired several interested buyers. I have knowledge of shrimp "shelf live" and the problems involved. My issue is the supply side.
This is not my first "acquisition". I have researched alot. I plan on making a trip south to find resources. I was looking for a starting point. TIA

Louisiana is the number one shrimp producer in the US.

Terrebonne is number one shrimp producer in LA.

Dulac is the number one shrimp producer in Terrebonne parish.

Therefore you should go look in Dulac for a shrimp hookup.

How much shrimp you looking to move?

Are you going to be hauling fresh or frozen shrimp? As you already know fresh shrimp only have a shelf life of a couple days before the orange(fat) in the heads start to show up. At this point a lot of people will think they aren't fresh enough (and won't want to buy them) even though they are fine. This is something ingrained in southern Louisiana people but this may not be as bad as you go north.

I also ask about frozen shrimp because fresh day boat caught shrimp are not always available. There are a few different types of shrimpers in the gulf: skiff or day boat shrimp, ice boat shrimp and IQF boats. Skiff boat shrimp are smaller boats that shrimp for one day or less and come back in. These are fresh and usually retail-able depending on how good they take care of them. Ice boats will go out for a week or longer and keep their shrimp on ice. These are usually not retail-able and are sold to the factories to be peeled. IQF boats also go out for longer than a week but freeze their shrimp in a salt water brine solution and store them in a freezer on the boat. These shrimp can be slacked out and retailed if the boat takes care of them and does it right.

Fresh shrimp supply can be sporadic while IQF are usually year round. It's just something to think about if you are going to do this year round.

For areas, I would call the docks in Venice/Buras, Delacroix, Lafitte, Dulac, Grand Isle/Fourchon/Leeville, Morgan City, Delcambre, Cameron, etc areas for fresh shrimp. You can also try with some distributors in the New Orleans area since a lot of retail shrimp are scooped up by them since most of them run their trucks to these areas daily.

If I had your email, I could give you some places to try.

There's 2 people that have NWA market pretty much cornered. He'd have a hell of a time getting in.

and to the OP, you are going to want IQF, fresh isn't going to work for that

Only advice I can offer is to make damn sure you have the proper licensing and permits to carry them across state lines for sale. I have a friend that is still paying for that mistake from 20 years ago. You cross state lines with seafood without the proper licensing and permits, they'll pull you over in the first mile.
