Nine for IX - Katerina Witt

...ESPN is showing a doc tonight on Katerina Witt (will watch b/c of her) called "the Diplomat" -
But what the hell does Olympic figure skating from the old Eastern bloc have to do with Title IX in the US?
What the hell does Olympic figure skating at all have to do with title IX? Figure skating has been around forever...and women were never denied that opportunity.
And what the hell does figure skating by itself have to do with Title IX...since when is figure skating a funded high school or college sport?
I always thought it was a private sport funded by families - with clinics and private coaches?

Which is how lazy and disingenuous ESPN has become.
I guess Title IX has just become a synonym for women related topics/sports.
As if it created all opportunity ever known to women.
But it's Witt - and she did make me watch figure skating in '84 and '88.
