Serious question: is this the new genre of the city?

All the concerts in BR that people talk about are country. Has Baton Rouge finally found its niche?

I actually might make that one. Randy's TM is a great friend of mine and last time I saw them at the Varsity, it was one of the most fun shows I've ever been to. Beer olympics!!

BR has always taken too the alternative country/rootsy scene, much more so than NOLA (kinda makes sense)... the Texas country stuff is relatively new... although Slobberbone, Centro-matic and Okkervil River have been playing for quite some time in these parts, they dont have as much in common with this new wave

it's not exactly anything new

BR has always embraced country music, nola, not so much.

While it has always embraced country music I don't remember so much ever coming this steady. I thank Alex and JW for most of that. They're both doing a great job

JW was one of the first to bring a lot of the alt-country to BR back in the late 90s, along with Dave at the old Chelseas... Slobberbone, etc.. then the son of a bitch went drifting the past 10 + years... glad he's back in the area... but that bastard still drifts
