Simmons continues ragging on Pelicans...

Part of his giant annual comparison of NBA offseason moves to quotes from a movie (in this cae, Midnight Run)

quote:

"Why would you do something that you know is not good for you?" "Because I don't think about it." "Well, that's living in denial."
To Milwaukee owner Herb Kohl and New Orleans owner Tom Benson, who seemingly share the same philosophy: Look, if you haven't noticed, I'm effing old. I don't have time for a big rebuilding project. No thanks. I want to make the playoffs every year and that's that!

quote:

"You shut up! I'm not talkin' to you for the whole rest of this trip."
To Omer Asik, who asked for a trade shortly after Dwight signed (and was denied). Who else is enjoying a world in which Omer Asik's trade demands get tweeted immediately by multiple reporters? We all know what the right outcome is here: Adam Silver needs to step in and say, "Look, New Orleans, you already screwed up your team — just trade Ryan Anderson for Asik and Patrick Beverley so Harden, Anderson and Chandler Parsons can bomb wide-open 3s for 100 games. That's what everyone wants. We already saved your asses with the Chris Paul veto — you owe us."

quote:

"You guys are the dumbest bounty hunters I've ever seen! You couldn't even deliver a bottle of milk!"
God, I just hated what the Horne— er, Pelicans did. Spending $44 million for four years on Tyreke Evans???????????9 Trading the no. 6 pick (Nerlens Noel) plus a top-three protected pick in the super-loaded 2014 draft for Jrue Holiday? For the next three years, they're paying more than $111 million to three guards (Holiday, Evans and Eric Gordon) who, for all we know, might not be able to play together. Where are you going with that strategy? And who in their right mind would rather pay $44 million for Evans when Millsap (a better player, hands down — it's not close) was sitting there for 40 percent of the price? Somehow, the 'Cans made the two summer moves I despised the most. Why give away two killer assets for Holiday over just keeping Greivis Vasquez (cheap contract) and signing a good backup like Nate Robinson? Or why not just try to sign Brandon Jennings and offer him slightly less than what Holiday is making? (Would you rather have Jennings, Noel and your 2014 pick … or Holiday? Come on.) Or why not save those assets to make a play for a better player down the road? Or why not just draft Noel, "struggle" for one more year, cherry-pick a stud from this monster 2014 draft, then make your move in 12 months? David Simon might have to revolve an entire Treme season around the 'Cans botching this summer. Er, the Pels.

quote:

"Two dollars, that's all you're gonna leave?" "That's 15 percent." "No, that's 13 percent! These people depend on tips for a living."
To the great Arn Tellem, who orchestrated that ludicrous Tyreke contract AND got two more of his clients (Vasquez and Robin Lopez) traded to more favorable situations. How? He reps Anthony Davis, that's how. That's been an underrated subplot lately: Teams buttering up power agents by overpaying their fringe clients as down payments for future extensions with the ones they really want. Just call them "down-payment contracts."

I for one would rather have Holiday than Jennings, Noel, and the 2014 pick. Also, it's top 5 protected, not top 3.

The first one is sort of funny and sort of true.

Otherwise, the only legit point he has is

quote:

Or why not just try to sign Brandon Jennings and offer him slightly less than what Holiday is making? (Would you rather have Jennings, Noel and your 2014 pick … or Holiday? Come on

Of course, this is with the hindsight of knowing that Jennings only got 3/$24M. Could they have gotten him for 4/$36 while keeping Noel and the 2014 pick and would that be better in the long run? It's at least a worthy debate.

I like the Holiday move. I like the Evans move less, but still a fan. He completely ignores 2 big things: these are young players on moveable contracts if it doesn't work out and Eric Gordon is fully engaged with the team again.

About which part? He was talking up Evans as a possible awesome pickup by the Spurs as a super sixth man days before we made the trade for him, saying if he were a GM he'd be going after all of Sacramento's talent because they were being held back by a messed up organization. Once we made the trade for him, he did a complete 180. Also, he says that we don't know if those three guards can play together, but acts as if Noel + Davis would have definitely been a good fit.

I honestly hate this as much as anyone else, but we won't really know if he is right or wrong until the season starts and we see them playing together.

I personally think we did great. I got really tired of having no one on the court who could create their own shot.

Brandon Jennings is too inefficient, also Noel and the 2014 pick are total crap shoots. Holiday is actually a proven asset, unlike Jennings, Noel, and the 2014 pick.

I was not a huge fan of the Evans move, but Simmons is totally ludicrous with this one.

This roster would be a total abortion with Jennings and Noel on it.

Not really, unless anyone thinks that there's a legit shot that Davis would have taken his qualifying offer to become a FA rather than accepting a max contract.

That's what's stupid about Simmons thought process. His thought is that you want to suck so that you can draft the next superstar. What he's ignoring is that the Pelicans did just that two seasons ago and are trying to build around their budding superstar.

no...i don't think there's any truth to that. It's just interesting if working with agents go down like that in some situations

it's also not the final product...young, movzble players/contracts...Gordon or Evans could be moved depending on how this season plays out...

Big talk from the nerdy little wimp who was too chicken to talk to Doc Rivers himself on the air and sent a women to ask him how Rivers felt about the worm's comments. He wanted to comment afterwards without retaliation because he is spineless and that is what he does, hide.

Yes. He could not believe that Philadelphia traded us Holiday. He thought it was robbery.
