Evinrude Ficht motors?

I am looking at a 225HP from 2001, and I have heard that the Ficht models historically have had issues.
Does anyone know this firsthand or know what specifically was the issue with the Ficht models?
Thanks OB!

My Dad bought a boat with a 175 on it back in the early 2000's. It was a terrible motor. It wouldn't crank if the temp was below 42*. They never could diagnose the problem and kept recommending different types of oil to run through it. After about three months he said screw it and bought a new rig. That one may have been a lemon, but I wouldn't buy one.

I can't speack for the 225hp model, but my 90hp (2001) is pretty nice. It's very fuel efficient, runs quiet, idles smoothly. Can't complain a bit but it's only got 130 or so hours on it.

When a friend was looking to buy used I came across a nice boat with one of these. I did research and everyone said once the problem was found/fixed they were fine.
I don't like shite on the water, so we kind of erased them off the list.

My cousin had one about that age maybe newer. It blew as he was running down a lake in GA. Evinrude replaced it and the new one blew a few months after he got it. He got another one and traded it for a Yamaha.

The 150's were the worse, but you are basically looking at the motors that bankrupted Evinrude. They are worst motors on that era hands down, and should be avoided
