I was sitting in the north end zone that night right behind the goalpost. The Tigers looked like men playing a game against boys. On the last TD Hamilton made their all american cb look like it was his first game He looked inside then made his cut and the cb tooked the fake and all he could do was stand there and watch the catch. Great game .

Awesome

When did TS get rid of the alternating light green-dark green every 5 yards?

Also those are classic Tiger stripes.. Similar to what the Chicken bowl stripes looked like

To put this game in context for those too young to know. LSU played Notre Dame the year before in South Bend. The game was a 0-0 standoff. Notre Dame ranked #1 and LSU ranked #7. It should have ended in a tie except for a bogus interference call on Tommy Casanova in the final minutes which set up a winning field goal for Notre Dame. The final score was 3-0. I was there. In the Sunday sports section of the Chicago Tribune, the lead was "If Notre Dame is #1, LSU is #1a. How sweet it was to kick their arse in Tiger Stadium the following year.

I was a Junior and at that game. For me, the second greatest game played in Tiger Stadium after the '79 LSU-USC game.

Most of us wore coats and ties to the games and showed respect to the Country, school, fans and opposing team.

We were actually silent during the moment of silence.
We removed our hats/caps and didn't talk during the National Anthem.
We didn't sing songs that caused them to not be played any more.
We TIGER-BAITed the other team when they entered the stadium instead of booing them.

Pretty sure I saw a short-side option in there too.

yup. that's what we wore to the game in those days. those clothes took a beating when you consider the pre game party starting at noon and the post game party ending about 2am (or later).

Does a full broadcast of the game exist in any form? Being the tech nut that I am makes me wonder what the source for these highlights is. Instant replay was available even as early as 1971 so obviously tape recording video was an option. Is that what these highlights were taken from?

Pretty cool video, thanks for sharing.

I find it interesting that the south end zone was painted with Notre Dame's colors and initials. Was this pretty common practice back then?

The midfield logo is fairly strange too, with both teams' colors represented.
